Fallout: New Vegas (I'm dumb)

So I just finished FNV and I have a rather stupid question. After the Hoover Dam battle it gives you the option to load a save before the battle; otherwise it just brings you back to the main menu. I chose not to reload, and I can find no way to continue playing the game after the battle, as my saves are all from before it. Am I just an idiot or is the game really over for me?

Go play the DLC, its all pretty fun. Except the casino one. But it has some cool story.
