Inb4 this is another stupid Rata's post

Ok this is a simple guide for Canadian users that want an unlock phone without paying full price or paying black market

I will use an iphone in this exemple since I am an Iphone User

I can also confirm This works because my mom tried it

1) Let's look at the Iphone unlock on apple.ca

Iphone 5 16 gig unlock is 699 on apple so around 800-850 with taxes (lolQC)

2) Lets look at getting the same Iphone at Fido (Why fido? will see soon enough)

180$ for a 16gig Iphone 5 with 3 year contract so about 250$ with taces so right now we save somewhat 600$

3) We wait take a plan and use it for 3 month

4) We ask Fido to unlock our phone (50$) (Fido and possibly Rogets will unlock your phone 90 days after contract starts for 50$) so now we still save 500$ and the iphone is unlocked But I hate Fido and wanna go to bell per exemple

5) 1 week after you nlock the phone Break your contract. (with the new CRTC rules in 2012 a company cannot charge you more then 200$ to break your contract) so the phone will cost 200$.

So now we have 250+50+200 which is 500$ about 300-350$ less then buy the unlocked iphone at Apple and it stay unlock for 'ever'


Now this method might work but it has 2 problems

1) Lots of hassle, buy phone wait 3 month, unlock wait 1 month break contract blah blah

2) The phone is somewhat unlock permenetly, with IMEI, but IMEI is like a mac adress different for each phone, so if your phone breaks and you need to change it it will be back locked (probably never tried it)

Also I envy USA who can have the black market unlock their phone for like 1$ while us in Canada cost like 70-170$ on the black market lol.


Anyway this is just a tip for someone who wants an unlocked iphone for cheaper in Canada.

Also I'm pretty sure this gonna work with any smartphone type
