    Electric problem.

Not exactly tech related... but a little while ago I went to heat up something in the microwave... when the light above started flickering then got brighter so I turned it off and the microwave turned itself off as well as the computer also on that side of the house. Thinking the breaker flipped I went outside to turn it back on but everything was on. I flipped the one I assumed it was off then back on but no power to that side of the house. Decided maybe it wasn't the right one so I flipped them all off then on... still no luck. Microwave is dead but the computer was on a surge protector (which had an electrical smell to it so I assume it burned out as well) but the computer is ok! Hopefully someone has some info =/ it's late and I'm worried.

One thing to note is the house is rather old, there are no TEST or RESET buttons on any of the outlets.

    Voltage/power surge.

Power strip saved your pc, microwave might still be ok. Should be an internal fuse either under a little door/cap or the housing cover. It's not a good idea to have pc on same circuit as things like microwave/ac fyi though.

Do you own or rent the house? I would start by going through and visually checking all the wires under the panel cover (the black/colored wires going breakers, and the white + green/bare copper that go into metal bars) for corrosion. Next step is tightening all the connection screws. Dont touch anything if you're worried/renting, if you slip and hit the main wires it's game over.

I'll check the microwave sometime tomorrow. And we own the house. I am not very confident in removing the covers to check for wiring n such so I will probably leave that to someone else/professional. Only reason the PC was on said side of the house was because we had the breaker flip a few times while my sis was over with her laptop and I guess I never switched it back. But is this something that happened randomly? Or something I may have did caused it? It's been setup this way for about 6 months and never even had a breaker flip. Nothing new was added and we've obviously used the microwave before... just wonder why it happened =/
