    TV home sound

Hello, I was not sure whether to invade the PC surround thread sooner I was more interested in something for my TV. If it needs to be combined or locked I understand this.

I'm looking for something inexpensive (~100-125$) that I could use to plug into my TV for casual watching Netflix/movie and eventually for when I buy a ps3.
I was thinking I'd just like something small and simple like a sound bar, reviews have said they have come a long way in regards to performance over the last few years, but the thread from last year most of y'all were saying they are garbage.
I live in an apartment, so I don't really want or need anything that can be too ridiculous, but something that will be better than the default TV speakers. I use a 2.1 for my computer and I've been happy with it, but I don't have the room to place another sub around where my TV is-- I don't think it would look too great.
Do y'all have any simple, inexpensive solutions that you could recommend me towards? I have been to best buy looking, but I was unsure of what direction I should be looking towards.

I wrote a long drawn out post comparing a couple models for you, including one a friend bought from bestbuy for $100, but since I have less than 10 posts, it was rejected and I don't feel like typing the whole thing up again. Hint: bestbuy, insignia, $99.99, friend has it and it works well.

Haha... Airways lovely to have long posts gobbled up by the internet.
I'll look at that specific one-- it's in the price range I'm looking for

I honestly wouldn't bother buying anything in that price range. It's all junk. Sound bars have come a long way, and while they are not anywhere close to a true piece by piece purchased surround sound system, they are MUCH better than most surround sound in a box systems available.

This one is about the cheapest I would bother with ($200):

I'm not an audiophile by any means, I just like a nice sounding system with decent volume.

We already have a bunch of surround sound speakers etc. for the price its a bargain

You can get cheap, but it's going to lack any sort of quality. Your best bet as others have mentioned is the Sound Bar. Depending on the shape of your room and the location of your TV, these can angle sounds to mimic the surround experience. Are the same? No but for a $100 bucks, your not going to find too much more. Sound bars are good as long as your willing to buy a quality one. It's no different then going and picking up a phillips HTIB and comparing it to a Midrange like Klip or Polk.

My in interest in getting a sound bar is for the simpler, smaller sound that will fit with the TV while producing better sound that what comes stock on the TV speakers themselves.
I am pretty set on getting one, if I need to spend more to get one that won't be absolutely terrible I can do-- I was just hoping to find a simple solution without breaking too much bank.
I like that one you posted Quixon- it is something pretty much in line of what I'm wanting to get.
Thank you for the advice, it helps direct my attention on which units to try and purchase
