Broken Nintendo 3DS Touch Screen (blackscreen)

Edit; The problem literally fixed itself. If it's a permanent fix, who knows. I just left the 3DS on, left for 20 min, came back, and it was working again.

It's the regular 3DS, not the XL.
So I was just playing some Pokemon Y, everything was going fine, and then suddenly the touch screen just went black. The touch part of the screen still worked, I could play the game and touch the buttons, assuming I knew exactly what and where the buttons I needed to press are.
I've opened and closed the system and turned it off. The screen is not completely dead, as the bottom screen does like up a little when I turn the system on, it's just all black. And I can actually get the screen to work perfectly fine if while the system is on, I open the case up and very quickly open it on its hinge all the way- It lights up normally for about a fraction of a second then, but quickly goes black again.

The warranty is gone and it'll cost $85 +tax and shipping to send it to Nintendo to get fixed.
The fact that it can work perfectly, even if its just for a fraction of a second makes me think it can be fixed somehow without me having to ship it, which would be great considering I only really plan on playing Pokemon Y and the next Pokemon game that comes out in November. and the $100some it'll cost to send it to them is kind of close to the price I could get a brand new one.

Anyone got any suggestions? Right now I'm just keeping it on and letting the battery die and then recharge it fully. Do I think that will help it? Hell no. But it's one of the few things I'll try before I take a screwdriver to it and open it up.

At least it came back, but I was thinking it might be a loose cable. I've seen it happen a number of times with laptops at least, the screen will "shit itself" or just go black but the backlight was obviously still on. At least in laptops, those cables tend to be zero insertion force, held on with a piece of tape (lol) and can come loose when their owner is somewhat rough with the machine (a lot of back-lid bends at least). Making sure that cable is back in properly (and taped lol) can be annoying too. Can sometimes temp-fix it with a nudge to where the cable is, but that can just lead to cracking the screen or backlight if you bend too hard.

I have no idea how the screens in a 3DS work, but probably something similar. Might explain why the touch buttons worked: different cable. Not saying to put your machine under the screwdriver, they probably wouldn't want to service a machine that's been tampered with but I have no idea about that. And research it much more so you're not getting zapped during the operation (gotta get that tendon).

Started acting up again, this time doing nothing wasn't fixing it. I turn it on and it would be fine. Then a few seconds later and it would blink on and off sporadically, then just turn black permanently. It seemed like something could have been loose, but I took it apart and couldn't see anything visibly wrong with it. checked to see if everything was tight anyways and put it back together. I didn't break anything, didn't fix anything either. idk. I'll probably just buy a 3ds XL since I still have the original model instead of sending it off to Nintendo to fix for $100. Though that will dip into my PS4 fund. Might just put off buying a 3ds until the end of November.
