Issues logging in to FFXI for Europe (probably just Orange) players.

Since last night (EU time) I wasn't able to log into FFXI, had a lot of network issues and I just gave up and went to bed. Tonight I wasn't able to log in either, but then I saw this report on Guildwork and it seems it may be related to Orange ISP but I can't be completely sure.

On the EU LS, more members reported having issues as well.

I am now able to log in using a VPN located on NYC, so, at least there a way to access if you really want to log in but are not able to.

In my case, it is my own server that I set up with Digital Ocean so, no danger since I manage the server.

Using a public VPN, well, depending on if it is encrypted or not (and the security level) potentially the owner of the VPN could get your info, but that is being _really_ paranoid.

I've been having random issues like these for a while now, a month? Maybe more? It's not everyday.
Sometimes it takes ages to load up (talking about 15 minutes from when I start PoL to when I'm finally in-game).
Some other times it would just time out while attempting to do it and give the silliest of POL errors.

When that happens I'm usually randomly very lagged in-game too. Like AH gives me often "Search failed" error, it takes a while even to load up other people's bazaar or to use the /sea function etc.
I dunno what's going on. For me this started when they started doing bans recently, I originally thought it was because they were running additional "code" on the server to check for something and this slowed down the server, but given how not all players are experiencing this, it probably has other sources.

I don't have Orange as I live in Italy, I'm connected with "ALICE" (Telecom Italia), no clue if they have something in common with Orange, like using the same international routes etc.


Also I'd like to emphasize how I'm having this sort of random issues (random because sometimes things are smoother) ONLY with FFXI and nothing else.

I think Orange is France Telecom, and the other company in Germany has something to do with the official Telecom so that could be the point in common.

And yes, this seems to happen in FFXI ONLY, as I use internet for everything (I work from home, for a company using internet all the time) and I haven't had issues with anything else, just FFXI since a couple of days ago.

You mean, when this happens?
I have experienced occasional huge lag on the FFXI official forums (to the point it would not even complete loading the CSS or time out attempting to do so or just take ages) but I never paid attention if this happened at the same time as my other POL login issues, I don't use much FFXI official forums from home.

Next time I'll make sure to test.

I -seem- to be able to access both POL website and official forums.

Do you have the IPs for the actual servers (or some of them at least), by any chance? Traceroutes would show us if/where there is an issue...
