I always wanted a legit telescope that could see the surface of the moon up close without it making it seem like I was myopic. (had shit one with shit lens) But them good ones are expensive.

Alternately, there are a number of observatories throughout where I live that have viewing nights, and sometimes universities and colleges have their astronomy clubs have viewing nights as well. That could also be a low cost option for you.
