Beastmen Treasure Quest (Lower Elshimo)

Did a search, didn't see anything about this quest. I need help because I've been trying to do this quest. Been using info from FFXIclopedia that says one of the items is dropped only by Creek Sahagin in Yuhtunga. I've killed like 30-40 with no drop. Was wondering if anyone has done this quest and knows the approx. drop rate for these items. By the way, this is the quest for the Mermaid Ring if anyone is curious.

With TH1, its like a 1% drop rate. I've done this quest four times (0/4 btw RAWR) and just like other rare pop items sometimes you're darned lucky and get it right away, and other times you start harboring vicious hatred for these stupid blue fishmen as they refuse to drop. Keep at it, eventually it'll drop.

It's funny you make this topic because I was trying to get Hydro Shot the other day, and got the drop and was totally suprised (I dropped them) >_>

Drop rate is truly horrid. Expect to spend 4+ hours trying to get one of the pieces. I went 1/1 on the time I did it for the Mermaid Ring. Also got Exocets off the NM near the 100% drop mermaid part NM.

I got the one piece unexpectedly while farming elshimo newts to make Gobbie drinks back when that was huge money for a day or two and just had to spend 12 hours getting the other three parts.

edit: Oh, and the chest appeared in a discoloured circle of grass around where the 'X' is on your map if that makes it easier to find it.

I've done this quest a few times, the pieces that always gave my friend and I the most trouble was the head piece off the brooks. Did it like, 4-5 times, saw ring once.

As of late though, the mermaid body piece has been a pain in the ass to me. It only drops from Spring Sahagins, which only have six spawns in the whole zone. I've been @3/4 pieces sans the body for a while now, althoughbefore I gave up hunting for it, I made about 400k off the holy ampullas from Wuur the Sandcomber. He's a lotto pop off the two Spring Sahagins @ H-9.

I've done this quest 4 times and am currently sitting on two pieces of dead mermaid.

Just to make peeps sick... I once went out and got 3 pieces in 30 mins. It turned out it was full moon and I was a WHM/THF with only just level 15 THF :D

The 1% drop rate sounds about right, did this quest again just last week, got Creek Sahagin drop in about 30mins, Spring Sahagin on second kill (which is a bloody record because it's what normally takes me at least two evenings), the NM popped quick and then spent rest of the evening and following morning killing Brook Sahagins till I got the fourth drop. Just keep at it and ignore the paranoia of "am I killing the wrong Sahagins?". Also, I'm positive there are seven Spring Sahagin spawns, not six (1 in the first room you enter, 1 in Light Buckler ??? room, 2 in the large room down steps, 1 in front of ornamental door and 2 in Wurr's room- you can cover them all and two additional NMs Namtar and Masan in a single loop). God I've done this way too many times.

I'm 5/7 on the ring, did the quest few times last year when ring was selling for lots and only again last week to get one for my PLD to keep. Nowadays on Asura you make more money actually doing the quest (i.e. when you total up the gil sahagins drop, the gil you get from popping treasure chests, the gil you get from Qull the Shellbuster/Fyuu the Seabellow/Wurr the Sandcomber/Namtar/Masan and their possible drops and selling all the other random crap you get including several stacks of mythril/silver coins you can steal) than selling the ring itself.
