Brighten up a movie

Well i just got a copy of American Gangster its a Screener copy. But it is a little bit dark. How do you brighten up movie.

It ultimately depends on the program you are using to view the video. Sometimes adjusting the video acceleration/overlay or switching to openGL (VLC) mode helps resolve any darkness issues.

if the video looks unusually dark, like nearly impossible to see anything you can try changing the ouput module in VLC by going to: preferences, then open the video list and actually click on the Output Module menu, don't open it. From there click on advanced options in the bottom right and change it to something else, (I keep mine on OpenGL). A restart will be required to notice any effects.

If that doesn't work or you just want to brighten it up a little, try going to your graphics card control panel and find something like "video and television" then adjust video color settings.
