Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka from Decapitated died yesterday.

I know several people here listen to death metal so I'd thought I'd post.

Drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka of the Polish extreme metal band DECAPITATED passed away in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a recent road collision. He was 23 years old.
Decapitated have been pretty terrible since Sauron left but Vitek has always been an incredible drummer, especially for being only 16 when "Winds of Creation" was released.

He was only 15 when they recorded the album and in this video.

Listening to this video clip made me realize my favorite and least favorite music style are both "metal". I can't stand that kind of band. Was a pretty good drummer tho.

Music without grunt is not metal anymore. If you're not a fan of this, you're not a fan of metal.
If its from the '80s It might have been considered metal, but with the evolution of bands like this, other bands just became a kind of "heavy rock". You may have just identified your boundary of metal/Numetal.

Some band can scream, but you can still distinguish the instrument and music out of the noise and distortion

And wtf at your definition of metal, it doesnt require "grunt" to be considered metal. Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth is all metal the same way your grunt music is.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. I hate people who think death/black are the only "TRUE" forms of metal. Look at the roots of Metal with Maiden and Priest and look at the different genres that evolved from that, much closer to the roots than death. Neo-classical, Progressive, Power, Gothic, Doom, etc are all genres of Metal that are more closely related to the orgins than Death/Black. Just because its not grunting and playing as fast as you can doesn't mean its not metal. I hate that misconception, it couldn't be further from the truth.

k, done. point being, this is shit. the drummer's good, ill give him that. yes, he's 15. that's pretty sick. as far as "music" is concerned though...i mean okay everyone's definition of music is different, etc. etc. /agingliberalhippiedouche off. point being, i can grab 3 of my suitemates and go, "okay ted, here's a mic. scream into it whatever comes into your head. kyle, you're the only one who can play, and by play i mean you have really good chops and can maek fast noetz, and bobby, here's a guitar. crank up the distortion to max so no one can discern which notes you're actually playing and go buck wild, pal."

look, a death metal band. i just dont see the point of death metal. so some of it is discernable, great. time signature and rhythmic cycles. tell me what greater purpose it serves and why you consider it "music" and ill kindly gtfo.

I'd agree with Saga. The heaviest I go is melodic death metal. After that, the indiscernability of everything just pisses me off, it just gets ugly and pathetic.

Just because you personally don't see the point of death metal and don't like how it sounds doesn't mean other people DO see the point of death metal and DO enjoy it. Maybe only some of it is discernible to you but I can hear everything because I've been listening to it for years. If you want to listen to a band that is a bit more accessible, meaning the instruments are a bit more discernible without having to have been listening to it for a while, try Necrophagist, Psycroptic, Impaled or if you're not a fan of the heaviness of those, try some Death.

The point of death metal is the same as any other genre of music, to play something you enjoy and that people like to listen to. The reason I consider it music is because I enjoy to listen to it, just like I enjoy to listen to The Velvet Underground or Dax Riggs, just like anyone likes to listen to music. People seem to have the mindset that something they don't understand is automatically bad, and you're a perfect example.

QFT. And arguing what is and isn't music is like arguing over what is art and what isn't. Its all about perspective and defined by the fan.

Anyway, back to Vitek. Drums are a big part of why I love metal. Even if you don't like Decapitation's style, you can't deny how awesome Vitek was on the drums, especially at his age.

EDIT: wow at the posts while I write my response. Saga, you do realize how pointless your argument is? Its an argument on Art vs. Not. You wont win....

i agree with tekki, and i probably should have just posted the same thing, but i come from a very traditional background in music (classically trained, grew up on dave matthews band, etc.) so me trying to find musicality in death metal is like george bush trying to accept homosexuals. sorry m8
