Would you be psyched?

This upcoming semester i'm taking a course for Server 2003, a Vista Cert course, and Using Vista in a Network Enviroment. The catch is, i'm taking all these with my dad.

Everyone's telling me how awesome it would be to take courses with their dad. Should i be psyched about this or not?

(backround on my dad: he's charismatic and at one point was an instructor of celestial navigating, but he's very rigorous on the books and thus the primary difference in our personalities.)

If you guys study together you may butt heads, and hard. I'd hate to do that with a family member.

It depends really, some people get along very well with their dads and others don't. If I were in a class with my dad, we'd probably get expelled from it because we would be yelling at each other at the top of our lungs non-stop.

I'd be, but me and my dad get along great. Only downside is we'd prolly go out for coffee way too often. My lack of testosterone might contribute to our non-competitiveness, but who knows.

Taking a course in Vista, on the other hand though....

Way back when i took two AutoCAD98(i think) Classes with my dad at a local community college. He was doing them for work i was doing them for fun(was my junior year in HS, transfer credits FTW). They were night classes and so very BOREING. I dreaded the thought of taking a class with him but all in all it was a verry fun time. More for me than him since I had more PC background he ended up asking me for help ALOT. In the end we both ended up not only getting A's but also i know i gained alot of respect for my dad and to this day he still calls me and asks for help with AutoCAD.

edit: but if my dad fell asleep before me, that'd be hilarious and totally worth it.

I'd only be psyched because it would give him an opportunity to see my attendance/studying habits/classroom performance (sparse/none/often asleep) cross-checked against my test scores (great) vs. his effort/grade.

My dad was a high school math teacher so it would invariably drive him nuts.

I have the type of dad that all my friends want as the "parental supervisor" for spring break trips. My dad is fucking awesome, there isn't a way not to have fun when he's around. If we were to take classes together, he'd probably cheat off me. I fell quite far from the tree as far as intelligence goes, I probably have a higher ACT/SAT score than if my parents summed theirs up.

The way me and my dad are, it would be pretty horrible. Whoever got the higher grade would mercilessly ridicule the other until the end of time.

Maybe, for instance if your dad has high expectations on you (which dad doesn't?) so the extra pressure is going to be there. Or maybe not.

I actually took two classes with my mother, one of them being Chemistry and she was my lab partner, and I admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it, we had a lot of fun.

A lot of you people are making me jealous I can't/won't ever/didn't do stuff like this with my father. I agree that whether or not someone would be psyched about this depends on their relationship with their father. Personally I don't think I'd mind, but my father is a construction worker and wouldn't be seen in the classroom, lol.

i think it would be great, i always want to know more about my parents one way or another. I always ask my parents questions about their past and encourage my siblings to do the same. Once they are gone, their knowledge is forever lost. This is how I learned my very proper chemistry professor father got kicked out of his dorm (and almost the university) for running a casino out of his room. He is also kinda a nerdy guy like me and was shocked to learn he used to emcee big events in college. I could write a book about my mom. While taking a class is different, unless you don't get along, i think it will be a good experience.

I don't know how something would work out for my father and myself. Fortunately I would never have to worry about it as long as the class is not about golf.

My dad has a terrible memory and falls asleep often.

So we'd probably sleep through the classes.

Oh that sounds like my father and I...

And he'd work his butt out to beat me too, while I'd just attend the classes and waste my time at home instead of studying.
