    Geforce 8800 intalation issue

    Well, I went a bought a 8800 32x card today, and well...

It doesn't fit. I don't mean that it's the wrong kind of slot, it's a PCIE slot all right, it's just that at the edge of the card there is my HDD cable connector, and it's keeping me from inserting the 8800 card all the way into the PCIE slot.

A friend is insisting I should trim the card at the mounting hole in the corner, but there's no way in hell I'm doing that. Any Suggestions?

I would need pictures to be able to exactally understand what you mean, but I assume the card is coming in contact with the HDD tray which is common when trying to install these cards in small cases.

What you can do is either get right angle sata/power cables, OR if that's not enough room, get a thingy that converts one of the cd rom drives to HDD storage spots. Or you can get creative and just zap strap a HDD to side of your case XD. Is the HDD tray removable?

It's not the tray unfortunately, it's the IDE connectors. which is shitty because I'm going to buy a new board with the IDE placed differently (ninety degrees).

Stupid Asus motherboards. I just wanted to install my new card.

    Re: Geforce 8800 intalation issue

So you mean the actual ide spot on the mobo is blocking the card from being installed? I thought the card slot was higher then an ide connector.

you've confused me even more, pictures please.

Does this look similar to your problem?

Does the card fit without the ide cable plugged in?

Well from the look of that picture the cable would come out of the connector either on top (with a huge extension thing) which might (but shouldn't) block it or on the GPU side of the motherboard. In which case you should just be able to push the cord down as far as you can and duck tape it (lolz) to the case so it stays down...

EDIT: I don't see how it wouldn't have enough clearance, it must be one huge ass IDE connector.

    I also need more parentheses ()()()()() (*'-')b

    Re: Geforce 8800 intalation issue

yeah that mobo I posted looks like it has enough clearance but it's not the mobo in question. Most of them have the pci-e slot high enough over the ide to provide enough clearance....that's why I'm interested in seeing this mobo.

    mmmmm mobo

    Re: Geforce 8800 intalation issue

Bleh, PC in pieces, couldn't post. But yeah, the damned IDE connectors are positioned in line with the PCIE slot (only one on the board). I can't remember what board it was off the top of my head, other than that it was part of the asus mini line. Got myself a full size board, everything fits, and other than having only one IDE slot and having to upgrade DVD-R to SATA (not complaining), it should work fine.

    I hope.

    Edit: Weeeeeell.

It's all plugged in correctly, I think. But no signal to the monitor. Shwa?

idk jack about those cards, but do they need any extra power? make sure it's seated right, try re-seating it, see if the onboard works(if it has any) may be your monitor never know.

dunno about EVGA 8800s or GTSes since I have a PNY 8800GTX but mine required two PCI-E 6 pin power connectors, while my power supply has 2 for SLI cards it did come packaged with molex to PCI-E 6 pin converters for those who don't have 2

It's a painful and disturbing noise that makes you think you broke your computer if you have 2 8800's in sli. lol

    Re: Geforce 8800 intalation issue

Well, got home and went to work on it. Guessing my issue is I'm trying to use the new 8800 from the getgo on the new mobo, when I have yet to even see windows yet (or bios for that matter, still no signal to monitor). The new issue is, I know the M2n-SLI Deluxe Mobo has onboard video, but no port at the back to plug in a monitor... so I'm a bit at a loss, never had this issue before building a PC -.-

If there is more than one pci-e x16 slot on your mobo make sure you use the one nearest to the CPU.

OKAY. Goddamn Altex sold me a fried CPU. Noticed the tamper seal on it had been torn, took it in for testing and yeah, FRIED. Now I gotta go to work and won't be able to get to it with the new mobo til tomorrow.

    I hate life.
