I need new glasses, old ones are like 5 yrs old. I've got it narrowed down to these two, I actually went in looking for something like the first pair but the salesman reccomended the second pair and now I can't choose. Getting my eye exam on saturday so I have a week to decide

I'd suggest the 2nd pair since square/rectangle-ish rim glasses always looked more modern-ish.

Go with the first pair. The second pair comes off looking like you're really trying to be hip. The first pair works with the features and proportions of your face much better than the rectangular ones. I might also add that the retro-dorky look for glasses is still very in (at least where I live) so go for them and wear it with pride.

As a bit of an aside, here's the pair of glasses my girlfriend has been wearing for the past few months. She loves old vintage stuff and has a bit of a thing for cats-eyes frames but lost the perfect pair last year at a party. Anyways, she gets all sorts of comments on how funky and cool her glasses are. Disregard the bow, we were messing around while wrapping Christmas presents.

Edit: Found a few other photos of her. The second photo (middle) is another pair of glasses she has which look really great if she wants to be more dressy, but the more rectangular frames don't work for all styles. The third (right) photo is of her old cats-eyes glasses. You can see how well they work with her face.
I'm not posting these to show off or anything, just to illustrate that certain styles of glasses work best on certain types of faces. My girlfriend has a very hear-shaped face with a rather prominent chin and anything that's too vertical just looks horrible on her. To the OP I really think that the more rounded frames are most flattering to your face, whereas the rectangular ones are very 'closed', if you understand my meaning. Specifically, with your hairstyle the rectangular frames make your forehead look larger than it does, while the while the more classic first frames center your face very well.

Between the two, I'd definetely say the first.

But I voted "neither" because the frames look too thick. I always liked really then frames/lenses. The ones in your pics aren't exactly thick, but they could be thinner.

Hell, I literally can't see the E at the top of the chart at examinations and even my glasses are thinner than that

Voted for neither. The first ones look like old man's glasses, might as well buy the strap too. The second makes you look like a hipster, so get a fedora and some graphic tees with your favourite indi band while you post with your itouch. Keep looking if I was you.
