Monster Rancher DS

Is anyone else playing this? Didn't see a thread for it, and it totally snuck in under my radar, but apparently it's the Monster Rancher DS 2 that everyone thought wouldn't ever get released here.

Not sure if I'm the only one who was a massive fan of the original series around here though. Monster Rancher 2 ftw, etc.

Man.. I played Monster Rancher so much back in the day. How did I not know this was coming out? Definitely will be looking into this.

I remember playing MR2 until I literally ran out of time on the in-game calendar. I don't think I ever played a game with my friends/brothers to the point where the game actually hit the end of the amount of time it could track. The wife started on MR3 though, so she never really got to see the glory of 2.

The game is more or less in the style of MR2/3 with a compilation of some of the good old monsters. A lot of the old stuff comes back (Gali, Monol, Naga), along with a lot of the good ones from the middle period of the series (Joker, Phoenix), and the later games (Zan). The whole style of the game is back in the old MR2/MR3 style, and it kind of feels like a greatest hits MR game.

It's a lot more streamlined, and they did away with all of the terrible, terrible things they did to the series in Monster Rancher Evo. It's been getting slammed a lot in reviews though, lot of people new to the series reviewing it and hitting it with criticisms like "training in stats should involve minigames instead of just planning and etc etc".

God I loved MR2 so much. I think I also maxed out the time on my game (and my friend did too). We used to vs each other so much like crazy. Out of all of them I loved 2 the most.

Please tell me they kept in the 'read other games' feature. Would be awesome to just slot in random GBA games and get awesome monsters from it.

DSi owners can just bugger off with their slot-2less system. >.>

Not always, and you can use the mic too. I've drawn some pretty random shit and gotten things that look nothing like the sketch.

Also the game is WiFi enabled, both with friend codes and without, though for some reason the FC-less WiFi either isn't up and running at the moment or just doesn't work properly, because no one is able to do anything but endlessly search for the time being. Or so it seems.
