I'm skeptical about this witchcraftery!

So one of my fiancee's friends brought up something interesting the other day. She cannot wear a watch. Not because she doesn't like them, but because after 24 hours or less of wearing a watch, the watch will no longer work. It doesn't matter if it's new, old, new battery, old battery, whatever. This sounds absolutely amazing. Imagine going to a jeweler and trying on a $15,000 rolex and breaking it. I would abuse this power so much. I was skeptical, so I googled as any rational person would do. Other people report this phenomena. OMGs, badass, or most badass? Anyone else heard of this?

Have you tested this? Go buy a cheap watch from Target and have her wear it. Repeat with like 2 more watches, and then if they all broke, open them and examine them afterwards.

My father actually has this same problem, any watch that he gets will just go dead after 2-3 days of wearing it.

I had a teacher in gradeschool that claimed a similiar story, except I think he said it was closer to a week, not a day of wearing the watch that would break it.

His theory was he had a stronger than normal (or different direction) EM field created by his body, and it was causing rapid battery drain in the watch somehow.

Either that, or some people have a particularly powerful Murphy's Field.

get her a mechanical watch with no battery (the kind you need to wind) they run down in about 24 hours but I'd be willing to bet if she remembers to keep it wound it wouldn't stop working on her.

If you can get one cheap, try one of the ones that works by inertia or whatever, where you gotta shake it to make it work again if you don't wear it for a while. If it's something with her body's natural gravity field or electric pulse causing a problem, the inertia one should still work I'd think.

On a personal note, I discovered some years ago I have the exact opposite situation. Apparently people in my family have an extremely high skin resistance, to the point it actually reduces electrical conductivity.

Several years ago, I was taking a Psych class to fill an elective in college, and as part of the stupid class we had to do mandatory volunteering in the experiments the department did in order to have the possibility of getting an 'A' instead of just a 'B'. Well, being lazy, and wanting to get it done as soon as possible, I opted to go for the one time only experiment where they shocked you, and measured several different voluntary and involuntary responses. The shocks were designed to range from barely detectable to moderately painful. You were asked to choose the smallest shock you could feel, and the highest you were willing to tolerate. Over the course of hours, they measured how consistent your answers were, and they also measured eye and muscle movement. After the fact, I also found out they wanted to see just how long people would stay in the chair before asking to quit.

Anyway, when they were attaching some of the little suction cup probes for their equipment on me, they noticed they were barely getting any readings regarding the electrical output related to muscle movement, eye movement, and brain activity. After hooking up the assistant into the chair instead, they determined everything was working, but apparently they couldn’t get a reading off of me.

They ended up having to go find some sort of crazy conductive gel, and had to literally scrape my arms, legs, and scalp and apply this gel to get any readings at all.

To top it off, I maxed out on their electrical shock levels the machine could produce, and was the only person who made it through all 3 hours of shocks. I could barely feel it, and I could tell it was almost pissing the grad student off because he probably found the reactions from shocking people funny.

Not 6 months later, while working at an internship with an electrical contractor, one of the electricians had this pen that shocked you when you clicked it, and he gave it to me to use for the day. I used it for about an hour without really noticing anything. He was pissed his joke was ruined, tried it himself, and was shocked so bad he dropped the pen. He tried touching my arm with it to no avail, and trying it upon himself again, was once again shocked.

Friends joke it's some sort of tolerance or evolution from coming from a family that has been involved with electricity, and getting shocked, for years (electricians, computer techs, etc). I have shocked myself on a 120V electrical hookup on accident a few times, and it generally doesn’t hurt too badly, and the reaction was always less than when other guys got shocked. I guess some people are just more prone to, or create more electrical current and magnetic fiends than others. To top it off, when I wear watches, the battery usually lasts for several years.

To top it off, when I wear watches, the battery usually lasts for several years.

I don't think I've ever replaced a watch battery, myself, and I wear those things until the paint has worn and the buttons start falling off.

I've always seemed to have higher levels of static electricity than other people around me, so something like this doesn't surprise me.

I used to work in an office with a metal door frame. Nearly every time I walked through the door I'd get popped in the arm or shoulder with a static shock. I shared the office with a couple of other coworkers who this would never happen to. I got to the point where I didn't notice it, but my coworkers would still snicker when they heard the popping noises from me walking through the door.

(I realize that static can be caused by levels of humidity, type of flooring, type of clothing, how a person walks, etc but having most of those conditions being similar between people sharing the same space, it always seemed like I had more electric potential.)
