    Returning to FFXI + Security

I'm thinking about coming back to FFXI after being done for almost a year and I'm worried about my account security. I know there has been a lot of problems with hacked accounts but I haven't done any research on how they got hacked. What should I do to help keep me safe? What should I look for to make sure I'm not already infected with anything?

I currently use Firefox with Adblock and NoScript although I don't think I know how to use NoScript correctly. I also use Avast, Ad-aware, and Spybot.

no script is pretty strong by default, but theres one option you want to add... click on the S for no script in the bottom right of firefox, goto options, goto plugins, tick the box next to forbid iframe and keep all software up to date and you should be fine, best way to keep your account secure however is to play on xbox/ps2/a diff pc than what you surf questionable ff (windower, otherwiki, alla, rmt sites, ki, somepage, ffxiah, other lses you dont exactly trust, etc) related sites on

I quite like FlashBlock too and I also like the notifications provided by a software firewall.

I installed NoScript for a bit, and I found it gimped too many sites, so you'll have to play around with the settings for a bit. For instance, FFXIAH.com uses IFrames to display purchase histories and what not, so you'll have to add that to your whitelist. Just be careful when adding sites to your whitelist though, because it may come back to bite you in the ass.

I do recommend it though, great piece of security to have.

FYI, I used just AdblockPlus and FlashBlock plugins for months without any problems. I did recently decide that the hassle of NoScript is worth the added protection, though as people say it does rape the functionality of sites like ffxiah which you can't really whitelist without defeating the purpose.

at least with noscript I have the reassurance I can go to a site without getting buttfucked in the ass with trojans and spyware unless I formally allow them afterwards.
