HD: Maxtor DiamondMax 21 500GB Hard Drive

Video Card: Visiontek Radeon HD 4850 Video Card
Really not sure about this atm, looking to play FFXI (no concern for any video card, multiboxing is concern, want to be able to play 2-3 windows) and CoD4. Want to be able to play other games as released.

Power Supply: Ultra X3® 1000-Watt ATX

Came to about 1k with case.

Eh, personally I would go with an Intel based build rather than AMD at this point.

Depending on budget, how often you upgrade, etc...Nehalem is slated for what, November? Unless your current rig just plain isn't cutting it, waiting for that might be prudent.

PSU is extreme overkill for the rest of the system. You only need half the power for what you're building there, and you can get a solid PSU for 1/3 the cost. You do want a quality PSU and all, but that's well beyond necessary, IMO.

4850 is a logical choice for a non-extreme gaming system right now. Excellent performance for the money.
You can pay $100 more for a 4870, or use 4850s or 4870s in Crossfire too.

nothing wrong with the 06 build for ffxi, i'd go with a reformat before going with a new computer.

CoD4 doesnt really play well on that build, and i am thinking for future games that come out also.

about the power supply comment, i am not familiar with brands of PSU, but saw a 140 savings on it.

Buy a Corsair PSU, something like the 620w modular, I bought it recently and it's fucking sexy as hell.

Also, I really would suggest a different brand of board, I bought a Gigabyte P45 and an E8400 Intel C2D CPU, overclocked very comfortably at 3.6ghz.

Have a search for the thread I made a page or two back, look at the build I ended up with, it came in pretty much bang on $1k at newegg prices.

Sorry for the mini-hijack, but what kind of temps are you getting at 3.6 Shue? Freezer Pro 7 or stock HSF?

Around 43-44c idle, highest I've got it, after like 2hrs of full Orthos stress testing, 68c ish

Ambient temps will come down a lot soon too, my place is too hot in the summer and fucking cold in the winter

thread jackers, anyway came up with this. cut down the the psu and upper the processor/video card/ram. any feedback appreciated.

MSI boards suck imo, and I'd buy Intel. The 45nm chips are sexy, I'm extremely happy with my E8400.
