Good time to come back?

hai gaiz! i played FFXI since playstation2 release and had a few 75s when i quit 8 months back. i was wondering...

is now a good time to make a reappearance into the game? i plan on starting from scratch with my brother.

If you quit 8 months ago then you probably still have a fairly concrete idea of all the things you'll need to redo. All the expansions. Unlocking jobs. More etc.'s than you'd like to think about.

I can't honestly say I'd ever recommend this game to a new player at this point. Might be better (if its possible) to reactivate your old character and help out your brother.

yeah i did absolutely everything there was to do storyline wise, with the exception of WotG. i just finished up all the missions they had available.

i was thinking since they have that new thing where you can level up with end game people that it would make lowbie jobs more bearable. is that patch out yet?

If you mean level sync, then yes it is out right now. I hate leveling, but alot of people are using it and alot of people seem to love it.

As for coming back to the game, I guess the question to ask yourself is what made you quit in the first place, and would that make you quit again?

i absolutely love Final Fantasy XI. there was nothing about this game that i resented enough to make me quit.

i had to quit for other personal reasons. along with college.

If you have the interest to play again, sure. New players now get some decent help starting out including a free exp. band, some gil and chocobo rental passes. If you wanted to catch up to WotG you probably could around level 50-60ish if you have the help of a couple people. So far it's not terribly difficult on the scale of CoP (which some people dislike, but for new players struggling to catch up it may be a positive). Maybe you noticed but there is mog/locker access in Mhaura and Selbina now too, and outpost teleport requirements are low level. Chances are pretty good SE will probably announce a new expansion pack in 4-6 months or so as well if you'd want to be setup in time for it.

Just from what you have said so far, I think you would like the game even more now. In the last update they have made low-level game play much quicker, more streamlined and much easier to deal with. The new beginner walk-through is something that I wish I had when I first started.

I used to say that there was so much to do in the game I don't know how people could get bored, but now their is basically so much to do now that it could give you schizophrenia.
