I've heard of people configuring WoW to use the 360 Controller, was an unofficial thing and I don't know how well it would work but has been done.

Honestly, WoW doesn't use menus like FFXI does, most of your actions are done through the Action Bar shortcuts so you're better off Mouse and Keyboard in my opinion.

You can also try a program called xpadder. It's a nice little app that allows you to map keyboard and mouse functions to buttons on any Windows-enabled gamepad (It's pretty cool to be able to control your mouse with an analog stick on your desktop). I used it to create a profile for WoW with my PS1 controller, by way of a $10 Radio Shack adapter. It works ok for movement and a few other basic functions, but the interface is not menu-driven enough to use it full time.

I was in the same boat as you initially, and while I had first scorned at the thought of using mouse/keyboard, I eventually resorted to using it full time. The controls will definitely take some adjusting. Took me a few days to get accustomed to mouse/keyboard control after having used a gamepad in FFXI for almost 5 years.

Anything that has a pet tends to be easiest to start off with me thinks, mainly because a pet is like an instant oh shit button. Got too many mobs? Put pet on them, and run. Problem solved.

But again EVERY class is easy to play by the time you hit 30ish. The only thing I would recommend against is not going warrior the first run through UNLESS you have someone to run you through instances for gear or give you gold because warriors depend much more on their gear compared to other classes. That being said, warrior is fun as hell, but it's all preference.

For race it doesn't matter too much really. If you're going to go alliance and plan to PvP a lot gnome can be nice for it's racial ability. Humans have the wonderful +10% reputation gain bonus, but after you get exalted with a faction it no longer is useful. Draenei have a very nice +1% to hit stat which is very nice end game because you can use less + to hit gear and still hit the 'hit cap' (don't worry about this now, it's more of an end game raiding thing, but it's still nice).

Seriously it really doesn't matter what you wanna play. Every class has its ups and downs, but they are all good. Just do what sounds fun, because unlike FFXI, that's what WoW is all about.

If you want an easy class, most DPS classes are fairly easy even after you cap out. If you want the option to switch later on if you don't like DPS, roll a hybrid - shaman can DPS and heal, priest can DPS and heal, warrior can DPS and tank, druid can DPS, heal and tank, paladin can DPS, heal and tank.

You can really play WoW as harcore/casual as you want. You can stick to solo or small group activities and do those whenever you want, you can go the PVP route and battle it out for titles/rewards each arena season, or fall into the hardcore PVE route and raid. There is pretty much always something to do right now, even if you're playing 16 hours a day.

And yes, there will always be elitists.

Check this thread for a decent easiest class discussion where everyone agrees to disagree about which of 4 classes is easiest.
    http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/world...lp-please.html
Personally, I feel mage is easiest if you can get access to decent gear, rogue is if you're starting from scratch. I'll agree that hunter can be easy if you're lazy but can also be complicated as shit/quite powerful if your wiling to put the effort in. Like FFXI if you want fast access into group events level a healer or a tank.

Race, is more about what you want to get out of your character. This page on wowwiki gives a detailed description for the various racials.
Racial trait - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft
The cliff notes/more interesting racial abilities:
    Allies-
Dwarf- An ability to purge certain debuffs and increase armor.
Gnomes- Can break free of binds, High int.
Human-Quite powerful right now. Increased reputation gain (like ffxi fame only more useful). High spirit. Good stealth detection. Can regain control of character after some sort of loss of control (fears, mind control... When did they get this? They already had some pretty powerful racials, adding this makes them seem OP to me).
Night Elf-Can stealth (but not move while racially stealthed). Higher than normal dodge rate.
Draenei- Good partying race. A heal over time ability. Increased hit and spell hit rate(accuracy in ffxi) for you and party members(always active).

    Horde-
Orc- Great DPS class race. Pretty powerful DPS racial ability. Higher pet damage. Stun resistance bonus.
Tauren- Great tank and pvp race. They get a racial stun (many aspects of this game revolve around stuns and CC), and a HP bonus.
Troll- A haste ability that get stronger as hp get lower (not always a good thing in PvE situations, can often lead to increased hate/low hp situations). Better than normal regen and in-combat regen. Binds and slows won't work as long on them.
Undead- Can break from charm/fear/sleep, eats corpses for free life, can stay under water for a loooooooooooooooong ass time.
Blood Elf- Aoe silence that also acts as a slight mana/energy/ruinic charge move. Small magic resistance bonus.

Granted there a a bunch I didn't list (weapon racial bonuses and crafting mostly. Please don't pick a race for it's crafting bonuses, it's a practically useless bonus), but for the most part they are not as fun or powerful as the active/reactive ones listed above.

If you would like to get a good class to start off I would say go druid, you have access to heals, mostly HoT, and can magic dps just like a mage. But the fun really starts when you change into a cat at lvl 20. And if you go full feral you pretty much have little to no downtime. Resto druids are healing machines (and are pretty much hard to kill in pvp) since the majority of there heals are instant cast HoTs. The magic dps form of druids have acces to another shapeshift form called a moonkin, which can get little downtime as well but sooner or later you will have to drink to regain your mana.

Druids are of one the best soloers, mages fun but you have to stop at times to drink/heal up, same thing with rogues as well as using your bandages and potions. The only time you would have to use your mana is when you change into form or toss a few HoT on you and then go back to lvling. I would admit though that druid lvling starts off slow, you pretty much suck ass for the first 10 lvls, then you get bear form and its slightly more bearable (zing) .

And don't start to do battlegrounds/pvp till later because the majority of the lower level brackets are filled with twinks.

Be sure you research the server you start on.

You need to figure out the alliance:horde ratio and stuff.

Also, figure out which faction has the least idiots. Most have an even distribution but sometimes there's a very obvious majority. On my server (bloodscalp) there's a lot less idiots on the horde side ~.~

Im still playing the trial version, its the website stream version i believe, i notice many graphical glitches and the game even causes my PC to crash. Glitches like myself dissapearing randomly, the ground going into its coding and wireframe and a few other things. I dont know if this is my pc or the game itself causing this. (Note: When playing FFXI, my computer does non of these things)

Well let's get the obvious out of the way. Are you up-to-date with your video drivers? Try resetting the WoW video preferences to all default.
