    UFC 96 + Dream 7

This Saturday at 7pm Pacific time on PPV. Same streams as always will be showing this for free if you don't want to pay or go out to see it.

    Main Card

    * Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine
    * Heavyweight bout: Shane Carwin vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
    * Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell
    * Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz
    * Lightweight bout: Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller

    Preliminary Card

    * Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan
    * Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day Have no clue here.
    * Light Heavyweight bout: Tim Boetsch vs. Jason Brilz
    * Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt
    * Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson

Not the greatest PPV overall but the main event is still great. Carwin v Gabe is a really interesting fight, its fun to see if the hyped up and coming fighters are as good as people think. I hope Maynard doesn't employ his blanket technique for 15 mins again, I rarely walk away from a fight to do something else but I did for his last one.

There is also Dream 7 on late the same night so the vids should be streamable sunday morning. It's the featherweight GP opening round, most of the entrants aren't people that everyone knows but Aoki, Ishida, and Kawajiri are all on the card in non tourney bouts. Imanari will be in the tourney so you can look for him to dive for some sort of flying kneebar which is always funny and scary to see.

These last two UFCs have been good and everything, but I really want some good old three round wars. Once again, another card that only had two decisions. I thought the Jackson/Jardine fight was spectacular, it was nice to see Jardine work his gameplan, but sadly wasn't able to outpoint Jackson. The people on sherdog doing the play-by-plays are either blind or retarded, 2/3 of them gave the first round to Jackson. I was really hoping Jardine would have pushed the action more in the 3rd, but oh well.

Carwin definitely has some KO power, especially proven with his short straight that KOed Gonzaga.

Other notable bouts... Matt Brown vs Pete Sell. Good to see Sell get beat down by a 3rd tier fighter in Matt.

Hamill also had a great highlight reel KO headkick.

fuck hamill...that was the worst fight i've seen on a pro level in years. between his shitty punches and the other guy's horrible defense, my girlfriend asked if this was those two's first fight in MMA. that fight made me want to hurt innocent children.

brown looked good against sell...carwin really surprised me beating gonzaga like that, that punch was really outta nowhere with not much on it...great fight by rampage/jardine, not a big fan of jardine's style, but he used it effectively there. i gave all 3 round to rampage, but i could see the first one being either way.

Brown impressed me, he may never be great but he is better than his record seems to show. I still don't buy Carwin being the next big thing, I think Gonzaga wins that fight more often than not. Rampage's striking looked a bit more stiff tonight and makes me worried about standing with a faster Rashad.

carwin needs work, but he has impressed me with his power for sure.

i wouldn't be too worried about rampage, nobody looks good fighting jardine...he just has a knack for making people look awkward.

Fucking sucks that DREAM 7 wasn't televised. HDNET is going to air it, but not until the 13th...

I just got an HDDVR and was totally pumped to use it for this, but now I'll have to wait. A hardcore friend of mine found a Korean internet stream, but apparently it went down halfway through the first fight (at like 2 a.m. PST)

Didnt want to create a new thread for this but I just saw this shit on yahoo. Wow, what the fuck......

Tapout founder killed in car crash - MMA - Yahoo! Sports

"Tapout founder killed in car crash

    * Cage Writer: Tapout fans remember "Mask"

Charles Lewis Jr., better known to MMA fans as “Mask,” was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning in Newport Beach, Calif.

Lewis was the founder of Tapout Clothing, Inc., and the face of its popular reality show on cable channel Versus. Several sources within the company confirmed his passing.

At 12:57 a.m., a Newport Beach Police cruiser spotted Lewis’ red Ferrari and a white Porsche driving out of control on the southbound side of Jamboree Road, according to Lt. Jim Amormino, a public information officer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Dept.

The Ferrari then struck the curb and hit a street light, tearing the car in half. After coming to a brief stop, the Porsche fled the scene.

An unnamed female passenger was ejected from Lewis’ car in the crash. Newport Beach paramedics pronounced Lewis dead at the scene.

Newport Beach officers later spotted the Porsche and stopped its passengers, a male and female, who were seen walking away from the vehicle.

Upon further investigation officers determined that the male, Jeffrey David Kirby, a 51-year-old resident of Costa Mesa, Calif., was the driver of the vehicle.

Kirby was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and taken to the Newport Beach Police Department. The female passenger, Lynn Marie Nabozny, a 32-year-old resident of Newport Beach, was arrested for public intoxication and released Wednesday morning.

Kirby’s bail is set at $1 million. The results of a blood alcohol test administered at the jail are forthcoming. No further motive for the accident is known at this time, according to Amormino.

Wow, for anyone that has no idea who he is, Mask is the one that wears the face paint on the show if ever you have been channel surfing through "versus" I believe it is?

yeah that sucks...he and his company are awesome supporters of the sport and really help out a lot of young fighters.

in other news...since this got bumped...looks like it's gonna be rashad vs. machida for the title instead of rampage. i'd rather see this matchup anyway...machida takes the title and a fall date w/ rampage.

I'm excited for Machida to finally get his shot. I could just imagine him still waiting 1 year from now when Liddell is given a shot after winning once. If machida wins, I will probably pick him to, it will be either a decision or submission, possibly a tko if Rashad gets tired. Rashad can win by decision or KO, which may not come easy, Machida gets hit so rarely we don't even know if he can take a good punch. Either way I'm interested in which one of them will get their first loss.

i'm really happy for lyoto. he deserves this shot more than anyone else in 205. if it goes to decision he'll win, i could see him tapping rashad out after a dumb mistake also. rashad's real hope is to rush him and try to force a mistake and knock him out. with machida's experience, i just don't see him getting caught...but you never know.

in other news...bj has officially filed a protest with the NSAC over his ufc 94 loss to GSP.

Penn files complaint against St. Pierre, seeks no-contest ruling of UFC 94 bout | MMAjunkie.com

he wants a no-contest ruling and a fine imposed on gsp and his corner trio. he'll probably get the no-contest honestly.

edit: and shamrock got hit with a one-year suspension after testing positive for steroids in his last fight. now roy jones jr will have to find someone else to fight bobby lashley in his boxing/mma show.
