Well I bought a new hard drive before as you remember i tried ghosting it and its being gay so now i'm going the route of just reinstalling the OS and drivers andd etc. Anyways I do not have my windows XP CD as it was not given to me apperantly. I have a cd key how do I go about installing XP on a blank hdd?

edit: I think i fucked up my original HDD trying to do it its running super slow and barely working it might die soon!!

You're going to have to download an ISO of the windows XP install CD. You can get these of off torrent sites, just use your own CD key during the install process. If there is any important data on that drive, I would quickly back it up to a USB flash drive or optical disks ASAP.

My old hard drive had 56GB and my new one has 190-200GB but now after trying to clone/ghost it and failed my new one now thinks that it has only 55GB as well as has the 47MB partition file. Is there anyway to factory reset or something alone those lines?

You could go back with a drive formatting tool and simply expand the partition, though I've never dealt with ghosting. I'm just assuming the ghost program tries to create a primary partition that best matches the image and not much more, though sucks that it's failing on you. I think gparted can do the resizing but it might not be the most user friendly thing in the world. Could also search for hiren's boot cd for more partitioning programs but it's mostly warez.

Or a google search on ghosting and whatever error message it's tossing at you could help solve the problem.

it's not giving an error message. When I right click my computer go to manage go to my disk drive it USED TO READ 190GB capacity drive letter: 190GB unallocated space Now it reads 54.48 GB drive letter: 47 MB Fat, EISA configuration, 54.43 unallocated space

when you originally ghosted it, you ghosted the partition, so thats why your new drive shows only that much space.

as i said before, theres lots of things that can go wrong during a ghost. if you cant get a copy of xp, you can get one from your pc manufacturer for a shipping fee if you contact them
