Right, well, everyone knows about it by now, so I don't need to tell you what it is... Figured it would help if the players had a way to express their dislike and offer a few suggestions on how to change it. Just sent a letter to SE through their Service and Support forms at the POL website ( https://secure.playonline.com/supportus/index.html ). If anyone wants to just copy/paste my letter to get the point across to them even more, go right ahead
Letter:
The latest version update for Final Fantasy XI included an adjustment to offensive Campaign battles that essentially made it a waste of time to participate in these types of battles. I understand that it was against Square-Enix's wishes that players would engage the Fortifications at these battles, then go away from their system to do something else, gaining EXP/Limit Points and Allied Notes for doing essentially nothing. This could have been handled better, instead of reducing the rewards so drastically, you may have considered guaranteeing that there would be enemies defending their Fortifications before a Campaign battle would even start. That, or making the target on the Fortifications move every so often, forcing the players to move along with it, and re-engage, if they want to continue earning the rewards. Another suggestion I've heard would be to change Campaign so that if a character is attacking a Fortification for a set amount of time without performing a job ability, weapon skill, casting magic or anything that requires player input past engaging, they either automatically disengage or no longer receive rewards from their attacks. Thank you for your time, and I sincerely hope you take this into consideration for improving offensive Campaign battles.
