Good sources for international news online?

Obviously CNN has some. But is there a site or two that focuses mainly on Japan and Great Britain/London?

NHK news has an English site if you really insist on japan-oriented news. Not much going on except for the elections right now, though.

has a GB section and an Asia section, obviously GB will get better coverage than Japan, but Economist does discuss Japan/the election quite a bit.

Loosely related, but: wow, the liberals in Japan finally won. Kind of surprising if you consider the theme going on in Europe.

BBC News for UK news (and international if you want different perspective from CNN, I personally read both almost daily) like already said.
BBC NEWS | News Front Page

If you browse to England and use the drop down box to pick a region London area will have its own news page.

Asahi Shimbun newspaper has a Japanese news section in English too.

NotLDP won. More interesting because it seems Japan may not be a one-party system for once more than political leanings. I remember when I was visiting my old home stay in Japan in July, and my host-dad asked me about the excitement in the US over the 2008 elections in anticipation of this election in Japan...he had never had reason to be excited about an election because it was basically one-party rule in Japan.

    Anyways, on topic.

Economist is great. Christian Science Monitor is great - used to be a daily print publication but now its only weekly and round the clock online I believe: The Christian Science Monitor | csmonitor.com

I like csmonitor because it isn't a round-the-clock blurb and occasional article service like cnn, it constantly puts up news articles.

The whole thing in Japan is also kinda shocking because it's a fairly well-known fact that the Yakuza have had their interests pretty entrenched in the government for a long time. It'll be interesting to see what happens to them now, whether it be rebuilding their influence or getting a government smackdown.

    bbc.co.uk

This is the best news service in the world. I would say they do a good job at providing facts and at least trying to avoid bias.

This decreased pretty significantly after the Kobe earthquake IIRC. Even though the yakuza helped many victims, it became known that a lot of the damage and dangerous materials that were released in the earthquake was due to skimming from budgets to pay off the yakuza D: As a result, many people tried to distance themselves.
