Roach Extermination

Hello BG,

So I've been looking for ways to get rid of roaches that have infested my home. We keep a clean home, but lately I've been seeing a good number of small roaches scatter whenever I walk in to the kitchen. They're usually on counter-tops and around the stove. Occasionally I'll see a big cockroach roaming (these things scare me to fucking death), but almost on a daily basis, I'll wake up to at least one big dead cockroach in the living room, dining room, or kitchen. We sealed up some cracks under our sink, but the problem persists.

I'm looking for alternatives to hiring an exterminator, and I've heard they usually work just as good, if not better. A co-worker suggested I buy Ortho fire-ant killer and just pour the powder along the edges of walls for throughout most of the house, behind appliances, and along the interior of cabinets in the kitchen, since it seems like the hot-spot for them. I looked up the product online and saw Ortho also offers a Ortho Home Defense Perimeter product.

I have also read that boric acid has great results as well. I'm basically asking for opinions and success stories for your roach problems. I'm just tired of these goddamn things and want them gone...thanks in advance for your help, BG!

Roach Traps.
Insects appear inside more frequently at this time of year, so unless youve had them for awhile, it's pretty normal.

Boric Acid works WONDERS (it's sold in powder form, Hot Shot brand should have some, it's what I used).

New house I moved into had a major roach problem. We put boric acid around the parameter of the house, and around any areas with pipes as well as other areas where it looked like there are gaps.

I rarely ever see roaches at all now and I was easily seeing them on a daily basis before.

True. It also doesn't help that it rained like hell this morning. We have a good number of trees around the house, and our subdivision has a pretty good sized field of grass behind us, so I figured we're doomed to roach infestation from all sides... just hoping to find a lasting solution.

I had the same issue. Rain would send them out, plus I have a neighbor that waters his yard every fucking day it doesn't rain since he has a well in his back yard. Since he is the corner house, they all got washed out to my area.

Add on to that, the house hadn't had the pipes used in a while and you can imagine how many roach friends I made when I first moved in.

But like I said, boric acid is indeed a good lasting solution IMO.

This is what worries me. We have a dog whom is always sniffing floors whenever she enters a room. So while I want this problem remedied, I'd like to keep my dog too.

The Ortho idea seemed strange since it's a fire-ant killer..but my co-worker told me that for a period of 4-5 days he came home to dead roaches everywhere, which increased since "scout" roaches weren't returning for food, and more came out looking for food and died.

I'm between those two options, and they both are pretty cheap...

Really the acid should be going into areas your dog can't get into. For instance, I placed mine inside the kitchen sink cabinet, behind my washer and dryer, and inside my pantry where there were some gaps between the tile and basebaords.

I also placed it around the parameter of my house, but if your dog is going outdoors, this probably won't be a good option for you.

So basically, my suggestion is to isolate your worst areas and try to place the acid around gaps and areas your dog won't get into.

Roach Traps.

These have always worked fine for me (i use combat)

A pregnant roach got trapped in one once. When i went to go replace it, billions of little little dead roaches surrounded it. it was just like holy shit.

we have some yard guard shit at my house, 25ft radius around the house, we haven't had a damn spider in this place ever since we got it installed, idk if they still sell them.

Roach traps only kill adult roaches and leave the nest undisturbed. Baits mostly do the same. Boric Acid will kill the nest and end the problem rather htan just lowering your roach census. Roaches tend their eggs regularly. If you spread a fine boric acid powder in places they will walk through, it will stick to their legs. Later when they return it will rub on other roaches. As soon as it touches the eggs it dehydrates them. It doesn't kill the adults but you don't really WANT to. Kill the eggs, the adults will go soon after and no more roaches.

It's fairly pet-safe. Don't put a huge amount down, just sprinkle along cracks and edges and such where roaches travel.

Gotcha. Our dog is an indoor dog, so the house parameter placement won't be a problem.

Awesome, this is the result I want. While I hate the adults with a passion (which I can easily spray and kill on site.....from afar.....>.>) I would rather go for the nest.
