Apparently females play more MMORPG than males? hmmm
The girl licking the psp made the article. I can see why ladies lie about how much they play though.
Female MMORPG addicts are pretty hardcore, yeah. Especially ones that don't work.
Not shocked. On EQ1, I knew a good number of women who were playing longer hours than most folks- frequently at odd hours of the night when most folks weren't up. Being an insomniac, I'd end up seeing them on and chatting to pass the time while they were grinding levels and suchlike.
(And yes, we're talking people I later met in real life. Not men-playing-female.)
I dated one girl that was into video games, but her idea of video games was rockband and guitar hero...
When I didn't work I was on ffxi from 7am to around 11-12 pm. I didn't sit there the whole time as I was raising a kid. But there was absolutly nothing to do in Alaska in the winter. Now that I work full time, school, + another kid, friends and other junk, ffxi went out the window.
Did it fly when you tossed it?
fell like a brick. Dunno why. All the big heads?
Lots of fat americans?
Fat Americans with fat egos?
Lego my ego?
Don't touch a fat Americans Eggo!
Good summary.
Girls dig the social aspect in general, for sure. Also I know girls in reals who play who simply love the attention they get online.
Title made it sound like females who play, but are closeted. The main paladin in my old linkshell was actually a girl, played a male character and never really mentioned being a girl or anything, until a long time after, lol
Not quite. Females who play MMORPGs are more likely to play more in a given week than their male counterparts.
The study sampled 7000 logged in players.
100% of the sample were gamers.
Of the respondants, those who identified themselves as female were found to play more per week than those who identified themselves as male. Also, those who identified themselves as female were found to be more likely to lie to friends and family about how much they play.
The article doesn't say anything about what percent of the 7000 gamers were identified as female or male, and the sample size means that the study can't make any claims about how many women in general are gamers.
Although, deep in the archives of the Daedalus Project, there was a survey done that found something like 52% of all internet gamers were female, but I can't find the study, and I'll be honest, I'm too lazy to dig through the Daedalus Project website.
If they said they lied before, how can you really trust them to be honest now? Maybe they lied about being women thinking they'd get some special prize from the researcher for saying they're females when in fact, they're not.
Also, big surprise that adults play MMOs. Shocking revelation from the study!
To me the whole thing just seems to play on stereotypes and preconceived notions, money wasted that could be spent researching much more important things.
I am a closet female.
