Running FFXI off of USB/External HDD at work

    Hi guys,

Lately I have become interested in running FFXI on my work computer. I did some BG searches as well as general internet searches and I found some really old threads but no solid information, so I am wondering if anyone has a definitive answer for me. I have complete access to my work computer, the registry, etc. Nothing is locked out for me here.

Would this be possible? If not, how can I do it?

1: Straight transfer my POL/FFXI folders at home to a 16GB USB drive
2: Export my POL/FFXI registry entries from my home computer
3: Import those registry entries on my work computer
4: Run FFXI directly off of USB Drive
    5: Profit?

Is it really as easy as that? Does anyone else out there do this? My home machine and my work machine both run XP.

    Thanks for your insight, BG.

Why not just install directly to your work computer?

Occasionally our head office uses pcanywhere to access our computers, and I'd like to leave as little info on there as humanly possible. It's not like they are snooping around on our computers, but yeah.

You don't have to listen to me obviously, but I would suggest not running ffxi at work if you value your job. I've known alot of players that were very successful at playing while at work, and the increase in time available to them made for some pretty awesome advances on their characters that I was quite jealous of, but yeah... the easiest way to leave as little info as possible is to not play the game at work to begin with. It's not worth it dude.

I know someone who remotely accesses ffxi on their home machine from work via the virtual desktop. I think it makes the game a lot more laggy but it's a safe way to keep xi off of your work machine. Definitely don't lose your job for it though!

There's a distinct difference between reading forums and playing the game.

I knew a guy who played FFXI from work at a hotel desk. To his credit, he was the graveyard shift where absolutely no one would ever come in to check in/out. He had literally nothing to do and there was almost no one around to care all of the time.

I make a post on BG about playing FFXI from work and get accused of causing the greatest economic crash since the great depression. Only on BG.

Can't do work when there is no work to do.

Go ahead and close this garbage.

Posting from the bathroom, I know I should concentrate more on what I am doing so that the sewage department operates more smoothly. However, I am interested in what the OP has asked. Went from a good question, to moral fags, to a man posting in a room surronded with water faucets, gotta love derails.

You might want to ask around first to see if your network has any ports blocked, to save you the trouble of even trying this in the first place, and if they don't, just get a laptop and plug into the network imo would be your safest bet.

There's several guides to do this, but this will sum it up:

    Good luck!

You have to register some dlls for it to work, as well as merge some registry settings, if its a usb drive, you will get some lag in things like switching macro pallets etc.
