Dual monitor question

Stupid/simple question. How can I leave a program such as windows media player/VLC/youtube/whatever fullscreened on one of my monitors while working on something else on the other monitor? Whenever I click to the other monitor it always makes a youtube video downsize to normal, and same goes for any movie although for those it's not as bad cause I can just stretch em out further using the player that they're on.

What I want to do is watch movies/shows/whatever on the right one in full screen and homework or browsing internets on the laptop, if this is possible...

edit: oh and ignore desktop on the left, it's super old and slow so I don't use it.

vlc/wmp is exiting full screen when you click on something in the other screen? Youtube and most other browser based video players will always do that because it fails, but I can't recall having the problem with actual media players. Unless you're double clicking on the desktop or something.

Well it doesn't minimize media players (it does make the task bar appear but i found a way around that) so I guess the question just applies to youtube/flash, but no way around it I guess? :/

I don't think there is, unfortunately. Possibly try the html5 version of youtube and see if there's a difference? Or butcher the url so that only the player is displayed?

I would make your laptop the main screen then, IE: the one with the start bar. I used to watch Naruto while playing FFXI and I could easily maximize VLC on my right monitor without it minimizing. I would suggest making the laptop your main monitor in your dual monitor setup, that should solve the issue. (YouTube or any Web Video must be in focus though, so this would only work for downloaded video, browsers that aren't in focus will reminimize the video)

It's definitely possible. I found this to be a nuisance too once I finally got my hands on a second monitor a few months ago. I can't quite guarantee this'll work since I did it a while ago. Anyway, it requires HEX editing like one line in a DLL but once that's done, you can watch flash videos on YouTube, Hulu, etc. on a second monitor in full screen and you can work on the other screen without it exiting out. There are also programs out there (I think it was called FlashHacker) that can automatically modify your DLL for you.

Since I know my configuration works, but I don't remember if I did the HEX line editing or FlashHacker approach, I have uploaded a copy of my NPSWF32.dll. Here is the link:

Replace the DLL at:
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\ or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash for Windows 7 64-bit

***NOTE: Before you actually replace it though, please backup your old NPSWF32.dll. i.e. just rename your original dll to like NPSWF32old.dll before you put in this new one. If shit hits the fan you can always revert back***

If it's working correctly an "Adobe Flash Player" task should show up on the taskbar once you've fullscreened a flash video on the other monitor. Moving to other tasks etc won't make the video go out of full screen. In order to get out of full screen, just click on Adobe Flash Player task and hit ESC.

Oh and a caveat, I just tested this out on Firefox and while it does pop out an Adobe Flash Player task, fullscreen doesn't stay. It works for Chrome though, which is what I've been using.

Good luck! And like Deadgye said, VLC or actual media players automatically stay fullscreened on the second monitor for me as well. Might be some preference you can set if it doesn't do so for you.

The DLL you provided worked on my Firefox to retain fullscreen, I had to close and reopen Firefox for it to take effect however.
