    Herman Miller Aeron chairs

So I'm thinking about picking one of these up. I typically spend between 150-200 on chairs and they only last a year or 2, so if I get a herman miller for <$700 it'll be profitable to me after a few years.

I found http://www.officedesigns.com/product...pn/Aeron_Chair which has a starting price of 629, if you want tilt, arms, etc, the price jumps alot. So this leaves me with picking my options carefully, or ebaying it.

Anyone have one of these chairs that can comment? What features are a MUST have, etc, and do you know if it's safe to pick one up on ebay? Obviously top rated sellers only, but the 7day return policy is rough... that site I linked offers full refund for up to 2 years lol.

So far these are the ones I found on ebay that look buyable. Multiple chairs high feedback, multiple sold in the past etc:

For the record I rarely ever use Ebay, especially for something of this price, so I don't completely trust it like I would a site that says 2yr full refund on returns.

Thanks for the link. Still going to cost 700-750 unless I go through ebay I suppose.

Tilt is pretty nice, lets you kick back in the chair a bit. Arms are pointless if you're sitting up at a computer desk, your arms will be ON THE DESK. That said, if the arms can't be removed (appears to be the case on the 'basic' model), then you'll want arms that you can drop down below your desk height so you can actually scoot the chair in all the way.

The lumbar support is kind of cheap-ish, or at least wears out easy. Chair seems to support pretty well by itself anyway.

I can't imagine a chair without arms. My elbows rest on them. Tilt is extremely important but the tilt options for the chair are "Forward Tilt or Tilt Limiter" so I'm assuming the basic model can at least tilt back (which is a must have)

You saved me 50$ with the lumbar info, thank you.

Don't be too quick to assume that because a chair tilts forward that it also tilts back.
I've never understood why, but I have sat in some office chairs that only tilt forward for some reason. Makes no sense to me (unless it was made for the pregnant or disabled), but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask about it just to make sure.

Yeah it seems the basic has a tilt and higher end also forward tilt and tension tilt

The one on eBay is 2yrs old has 30day return freeshipping ad is like 600. Really hard to pass that up. It's also the good model with the lumbar arm adjustments and everything.

Hah I've been bidding on used ones on eBay for the last couple days coincidentally. I'm looking to go cheaper than you are though, trying to score one in the $300-400 range, which puts me dealing with used chairs only. Still some pretty good (or apparently pretty good) deals out there if you look hard enough. Found a guy willing to sell an almost fully loaded on craigslist for $280.

Let me know how the used one turns out if you pick it up before me, I'm really interested.

Make sure you pick the right size. I had my office purchase the largest one they make for me, since the original shipment was for normal sized mortals. I've had the chair now for about 4 years. Fairly basic with lumbar support and adjustable arm rests. Highly recommend it.

I'll do that. In the meanwhile, I feel inclined to post this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Aeron-Herman-Mil...item45f3ac82df

I've been looking for days to find a buy it now at that price that offered shipping, and the minute I find one is 2 minutes after I agree to buy one from another source (albeit a cheaper one thats local).

edit: Although that one doesn't offer returns so it might be a bit scarier to bite off. But at that price, I'd say its worth it. If it's not as advertised, you could always open a case and maybe even get full money back anyways.

I'm a bit worried about this myself. I fit pretty solidly in the "B or C" category, I wanted to play it safe and get a C (largest one), but the one I found is a B. Hoping it will work out, if it doesn't oh well, maybe I can resell it on eBay and make a profit lol.

Or sell it to me, I'm looking for a B (5'8"). I fit into the B/C category but I'm sure a B is what I want.

Yeah I'm 6'1, but I'm fairly light so its iffier for me. I'll see how it works for me.

That listing I pointed out earlier already ended btw haha. That thing sold in 10 minutes.

Most craigslist adds for these are in NYC or the same ones as posted on ebay, so I'll probably stick with ebay. I was looking for a less than 2yr old chair hopefully with some warranty or return policy incase I don't like it, and was also trying more high rated sellers so my price was a little higher.

I <3 my Aeron. The weirdest thing is the no headrest but you get used to it and it's good for your posture..or something.

There are more alternatives these days but they are still great.

Just got my Aeron two weeks ago. The only Thing I dont like about it is that I can't sit in my favorite position, with one of my feet tucked under the knee of the other leg, half indian-style.

It's not due to size. It's because the front of the chair curves down in the middle. I can physically sit like that, but it's extremely uncomfortable on my foot.
