    Claiming online waranties (Photoshopping reciets)

So I'm trying to claim a warranty on an item that is a couple months past it's warranty date. I originally bought the item from Amazon, but going to the original company for the warranty. I figured since it was just a couple months past, hey, maybe they'll be cool, try anyway even though likely won't happen.

Upon asking what they need from me, one is obviously proof of purchase. They said it needs to be a screencap of the e-mail receipt. Well, that obviously got bells going in my head, rather than hoping they'll be cool about it, why not just edit the receipt so it appears as if it's still under warranty?

So obviously, question is, chances this actually flies? I'd assume low. Since the order number is in the receipt, they could obviously just double check with Amazon to see. But, I've never really done this shit before, so I don't know. I figured I'd see what BG says before doing anything O:

It would probably be better to save the file as an HTML file, and edit the file to change the text, instead of risking artifacts from Photoshop.

But is it something they'd actually go after?

I mean, obviously this is a crime. Crime shit gets posted all the time on here though (torrents is easy first thing to point to). The question isn't "Is this ok to do", it's "What's the chances I get fucked" + "What's the chances it'll be successful"

And like I said in original post, I imagine chances of it being successful are low (I certainly am not the first one to think of this), but I also imagine chance of being fucked are low.

These companies always, always, always double check the order number to determine your warranty status. Depending on the value of the item, you're probably SoL and are definitely best off hoping that the manufacturer will still help you out even if you're a couple months over your warranty.

You're gonna get fucked, though, if you try pulling something like that. Even if Amazon.com has absolutely shitty backlogs of their orders (they don't), most manufacturers also ask for a part serial number at some point anyways so they will be able to track the sale date of your stuff on their own system anyways. There are tons and tons of safeguards against fraud, and photoshopping a shipping date is, frankly, way too easy to work.

You're going to get taken to court if you try this shit, no matter how cheap the item is. The fact that you're even considering risking court/fines/jail over a warranty means it's probably an expensive item too, which is going to make it that much worse.

Easier done with a hard copy receipt, take a bad pic of it with your camera and fudge it on PS... Gonna get tracked with Amazon digital backlogs.

    Damn haha.

Like I said, figured as much in it not working, but thanks for the confirmation, especially the "they'll fuck you" part haha.
