The 'best way to level professions' thread

I made because I am having a hard time outside of leves to skill leatherworking.

Every recipe is 20 materials and nothing I can easily gather together, that and all the hides I have never seen in a bazaar and none are sold in shops and when the few are its overpriced.

Anyone here have 12+ leatherworking and can suggest some things to do that would make it easier to level?

This goes for any profession. If you know a recipe you can spam or something that is cheap/quick/easy for some simple skillups then post it here.

    Thanks.

The simplest way I've found to do the leveling up is just spam the basic level recipe to gain skill points. For example, I'm about to hit rank 20 weaver, from 1-10 I did nothing but Hempen Yarn, when I got to 11 I started making Hempen Cloths with the ocasional Hempen Item here and there.
When I was about 13 I started making Cotton Yarns (which can be crafted earlier) and when I hit 16 i started making Cotton Cloths with Master's Clothshop access on every synth. I did botch up quite a few times and I still do at 19 with masters.

    TL/DR
    So my advice would be:
Stick on the lowest "tier" craft synth available until you can progress to the next tier. 100-200 Skill pts on a constant basis are way worth more than the occasional 300 that you get from the synths of your level.
Stock up on basic materials, once you're high enough make items to sell, with the cash buy ingredients/crystals. Do this and you'll be a high rank soon.

I agree with darkdeath. However, it can be tricky with other crafts because there are several base items. Which ones do you make? Leves can easily get you to 10. However, I have no done leves past 10, what are they like then?

They are exactly the same as the pre-10 rank ones, except there are leves for ranks 15 and 20. If you use all the mats you're given, you get a lot of skill ups for free.

Thanks for the info. Also, have you run into any guild marks for crafting yet? Could you also update us if you get a quest when you hit 20 weaver?

Sure, I will. But the emergency maint cockblocked me hardcore, was 1k away from 20.
And no, no Guildmarks yet. That's one of the things I wanted to check out once I was 20, since I've heard a lot of rumors about them being 20+ only.

Just wondering, does the synth itself actually recommend the Master's Clothshop? As it's still rather low lvl synth, I doubt it.

It was calculated by some BG people that if you use any other support than the recommended one, your failrate goes up by a lot. Which means you probably would've gotten less fails with the cheapest support, cause that's what the game probably suggest you to use for that lvl synth.

So I wouldn't suggest anyone to use the more expensive supports until you get to the level where the synths have those supports recommended by the game. I'm pretty sure the recommended support will always be the cheapest one all the way to lvl20 synths, maybe even higher, at least I haven't seen anything but common support recommendation pop up at lvl1-18 synths.

That might be true, but; Once I reached rank 19 I headed to LL to sell some stuff, once there I ran out of cotton cloths, so I decided to make some with the Common Access buff, I failed MISERABLY, botching a lot of cloths. I decided I should go back to Ul'dah to craft, and when I did, I started popping cloths like a madman, with the occasional break here and there. Out of a Cotton Yarn Stack (99) I made 25 cloths (8 less than the maximum 33 possible per stack, so about a 75.76% success rate).

I'll try to take a closer look into the recommended support, because honestly, I thought the buffs were like back in FFXI, as in they gave you +1, +2, or +3.

Support gives you access to training skills you buy with guild marks (Fletchery Training for example), access to the wrong support definitely hinders your crafting.

Got to lv 20, no new quest and the leves in Uldah dont seem to give me guild marks either. I'll check LL when I head there to sell stuff.

Deaustie gave me the "Hoodwinked" quest. Bad thing is I need a fucking mesa-red cotton cloth to complete it.

    Edit:
    Spoiler: show
20,000g and 2,000 Guild Marks, which I'm pretty sure is the same as the DoW/M classes' quests. In my opinion, from reading the dialog.. albeit I was half-awake, it seems to me that the quest will unlock your abilities to get guild marks. Since you join the guild and during the quest they talk about receiving pay. I'll probably find out next leve reset.

Got another quest from Deaustie at rank 30. It's Called "Dance the Night Away", reward is 30000g and 3000 guild marks, so if you've done the lv 20 quest which is required to do this one, you'll have 5k points, enough to buy a book!~ And boy, i've got to say, the book does help alo when crafting.
    Spoiler: show
After accepting the quest, you have to go to gridania and talk to the mage receptionist at the mage's guild, he'll send you over to the repair NPC at the ebony stalls, she'll ask you to raise the shop's clientelle by saying stuff to them.
In my journey I came across this interesting mini game called "Parleying"
a 4x3 square will appear, a bunch of icons with some points attached to them will appear, the objective of the game is to basically persuade someone by amassing points. You do this by trying to select the icon with the highest points possible, however special rules apply; if 2 or more icons that are identical are next to each other, the points will sum and both icons will fade; granting more points. Take note that icons that are across the board will sum up too, for example:

    XZQI
    ZYZQ
    XXYI

If you choose the bolded X, the one to the right and the one on top will both disappear alongside the X you selected. Summing points from 3 icons instead of one.

*UPON FURTHER TESTING, IT SEEMS THE POINT SUM ALSO APPLIES IF THE ITEM IS ON THE SAME ROW/COLUMN OF THE ONE YOU PICKED, NOT ONLY WHEN THE ITEM IS NEXT OR ACROSS THE BOARD*
It would work out like this:

    XYZX
    XZXX
    XYXZ

If you pick the Bolded X, all the identical icons on the same row/column of it will disappear and sum up a lot of points since you got 5 items worth of points instead of 1 in this example.

As Icons disappear, more will appear to fill in the blank spaces left behind, so the board will always be full.

It's a bit hard to explain, but hopefully you'll understand when you see the board.

Order of NPCs you have to Parley with went as follows:
    Miounne
    Keelty
    Nesta
    Cicely

"The difference between having the book and not having it is abyssal." I'm trying to figure out if this means there isn't much of a difference or if there is.

Every fish>sand recipe requires Fishcleaning Training, but I can bold my entire way through the low ones at 15 now. However, I notice that it's almost impossible to HQ without the training, even with 300~400+ Quality.

What I mean is that with the book, you make stuff a lot more easily, for example; when I dinged 30 I had a hard time making Velveteen, after I got the book I still had some issues, but not as big as the ones I had before getting the book.

TL;DR Books let you make stuff easier.

    Ok next question

Weaver's guild sell Dye Training does that mean it's easier to make colored equipement or does it mean you could make dye without beeing alchemist?

Dye Training only helps you with Weaving and Leatherworking recipes that involve dying cloth/leather (the training carries over between both classes). You still need Alchemist to make the actual dye.
