PS3 resolution dropping ingame on a PC monitor

So I got around to setting up my PS3 on my PC monitor, but I'm having some problems with the resolution. At the XMB menu, before I start up a game, everything looks great and I have it set to 1080p, but the second I start up a game the picture quality is awful and there are tons of jagged edges. At first I thought it was because some games are 720p, but even my 1080p games are suffering from the same problem. The monitor I'm using is the VX2250. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this I'd really appreciate it.

You are using DVI or VGA? Anything but HDMI on monitor that small is going to suck.

Oh with the monitor link you posted, it doesn't look like it had HDMI ports, thus why I asked the question.

Connect up your PS3 to your monitor via HDMI.

    1. Turn off your PS3 completely via the button in front. Leave it off for 10~ seconds.
    2. Turn on your PS3 via the consoles power button (you'll hear one beep as it first turns on)
    3. Continue to hold down the power button on the PS3 until you hear a second beep.
    4. Once you hear the second beep, let go of the button.

Your PS3 will calibrate with your monitor and should give you the best possible settings. You may need to tweak certain options in the display menu.

Well it's an HDMI/DVI cable, even after calibrating it and tinkering with the display options it the problem is still there. What I don't understand is why it's crystal clear at the XMB but then turns to shit once I throw a game in (even the text in menus is jagged).

Have you tried a TV set to rule out it's not the monitor?

I can't imagine it being my monitor because it's HDCP enabled and every PC game I've ran on it (BC2, Fallout3, FalloutNV) have all looked great. Even on my old TV that capped out at 1080i ran games much clearer. I'll probably just pick up a few cheap cables off amazon to see if the picture quality improves with any of them.

What 1080p ps3 games? I haven't seen a ps3 game that renders in 1080p in a long time. Even gran turismo 5 does not render in 1080p.

Is the problem that the PS3 is dropping from 1080 in the XMB to 720 in games? If thats the case go into display settings and disable everything but 480 and 1080p and that will force all games to show in 1080 that can (LBP can't for example and will be 480 unless you go back and enable 720 as a choice before playing it). The PS3 always defaults to the native resolution in games as far as I can tell. Some games like MGS4 do their own upscaling to make them 1080p though without "forcing" it.

If that's not what your problem is then not sure how to fix it.
