Disciple of the Land Stealth Ability (08/22/2011)

[dev1130] Disciple of the Land Stealth Ability

*The following feature, planned for patch 1.19, is still in development, and therefore subject to change.

    • Patch 1.19 will see the ability “Coeurl Step” (name tentative) implemented. Exclusive to Disciples of the Land, the ability allows players to conceal their presence from enemies. The action can be used repeatedly, and the effect will not wear off even if players engage in gathering. The stealth effect, however, comes at the cost of reduced movement speed.
      * The action cannot be used in certain areas (such as city-states, dungeons, and instanced raids).
      * Certain enemies are capable of piercing and even nullifying the stealth effect.

      • Coeurl Step
Coeurl Step comes in four levels as follows:

        • Coeurl Step I
Learned at level 8. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 20 and below.
        • Coeurl Step II
Learned at level 18. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 30 and below.
        • Coeurl Step III
Learned at level 28. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 40 and below.
        • Coeurl Step IV
Learned at level 38. Renders you undetectable by enemies level 50 and below.

      • Functionality

        • Once executed, the stealth effect will remain indefinitely.
However, the effect will wear off if you reuse the action, incur enmity, enter certain areas, or change classes.
        • Movement speed will be reduced to walking speed.
        • The action cannot be used while incurring enmity, nor while on chocoback.
        • The action is not subjected to a recast time.
        • The stealth effect nullifies any effects present that grant increased movement speed.

When they do it like this they can have a patch note up every day!

That reminds me, why are they updating every little thing that they are doing? I'm not complaining though, after all I've played XI. I assume it is to show that they are serious and want to improve the game, but like when I see a post about some naked galkas and swimming suits, I just get this feeling that is this really necessary

Stealth sounds a good addition I guess

I was wondering how they were going to do this. Interesting. I think I would have rather it be learned with guild marks, but that's no biggie. Hopefully they will be smart and not let mobs over the stealth rank slip in at the gathering spots. It has to have some kind of drawback, and the walking speed should be just fine - from what I've seen so far you never need to use this over long distances.

Either the ability is fun or it's useful, it can never be both (c) SE. Haha a bit off topic but reminds me instantly of Knights of Round. It's fun but it sucks.

I do like that you can do your gathering without this effect wearing off. Not too bad of an addition

There is no cool down on the recast of this. Just turn it on when you need to gather in a dangerous spot and turn it off when you're safe.

    Edit:

Also, all those world explorers bitching about Chocobo aggro can now use this ability and take a nice stroll into far and away places.

Am I going to get my guild points back for my useless Cloudkin Evader ability?

Technically speaking, it's not useless... it still does exactly what it did before! But erm, I'd rather them redesign exactly what the Eluder abilities do and make them more significant.

Or remove them completely and give gatherers something actually useful.

I think they've already said they are looking into changing the eluder abilities to be more useful/intuitive... instead of how fucking awkward, slow, shitty, etc. they are now. I doubt we're getting reimbursed for anything.

Didn't they already talk about giving people back their Guild marks for some stuff they will change? Why not now too?

Because that's what they said when they were discussing rebalancing classes and their abilities without the Stamina system... They specifically said they were looking into fixing the Eluder abilities.

Maybe, but all I was talking about is that I remember them talking about reimbursing players with marks when they'll change some abilities or w/e, and was just thinking it might also apply here.

Walking speed seems a little too slow, but I guess since there is no recast timer, you can just use when its needed, then remove it when your safe. Not too bad I guess.

The eluder abilities seem more like a targeted crowd control ability. When I used my Wavekin Eluder (I've only used it like twice) on some crabs, it made them run away from me for about 15 seconds. Kind of like a fear spell.
