So. My google isn't loading up.

Smart me. Was going to google why my google wasn't loading up. GG.

Anyways, a few months back, I've been living with the redirect search virus.

I've used AVG to scan, tdsskiller, Malwarebytes, and superantispyware. Nothing seems to get rid of the redirect search virus. I gave up on it and just lived with it mainly because I didn't want to reformat my computer.

As of last night, my google stopped loading up all together. I updated my firefox and everything, and nothing works. Scanned again and still isn't loading.

Anyone have any ideas?

Flush your DNS cache.
Command Prompt -> "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotes.

Check that your DNS servers are set correctly.
Command Prompt -> "ipconfig /all", look for your two DNS server IP's, and make sure they are valid. If in question, change them to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.1.

Check for HOSTS file alteration.
Open Notepad and browse to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC. Open the file "hosts". Make sure there's nothing in there out of the ordinary. You shouldn't really see any uncommented lines unless you've used Spybot's Immunize feature or something similar.

Try ComboFix (last resort). http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...f/ComboFix.exe

i fixed someone's system who had a similar problem a few weeks ago, but the file i used is on a USB stick that i left at home, and i can't remember the name of it. it was designed for that exact infection. every usual scan (mbam, mse, spybot, online scans, etc) all turned up 100% clean but it was definitely infected with something. i'll see if i can find the file when i'm home & i'll post more info.

also, do non-FF browsers work? if i remember correctly this was only affecting firefox, so if that's the case for you, it's most likely the exact same pain in the ass.

I had this issue not too long ago. Once I got it cleaned out, I had to un-install and re-install firefox to finish it. Was annoying but not the worst virus I ever had to clean.

It was called ComboFix, and I recommended it in this thread already. Try it. It's pretty hardcore.

i've used combofix on dozens of systems, i constantly have people bringing me screwed up machines... it's good but it isn't what i meant.

I've never been able to completely remove this before.

Just reformat, it'll save you a lot of headache.

Install something like Microsoft Security Essentials afterwards, you'll never have to worry about it again.
