Advice on an iPhone upgrade?

Heya BG.

Found out yesterday i am able to upgrade my phone contract. Currently using a Blackberry Bold 9780 and am looking to switch to an iPhone.

The issue i have is if its worth switching to the 4 or the 4s? Im not an app crazy smartphone user, use a mac, don't desperately need the extra memory and rarely go on the browser on my Blackberry. Id be more interested in things like if the phone runs faster to warrant the extra money.

I haven't given much thought to the rumors of the iPhone 5 but since the 4s was released only a few months back im guessing it will be a while?

Any help is much appreciated!

Here is my opinion

First Iphone 4s came out um in september or october (forgot) so normaly then next one won't be until summer/fall 2012.

2) For me here is how you need to choose the 4 or 4s (P.S my info for pricing are Canadian so might change for USA or w/e you from)

4 is 99$ (for 8 gig) for 2-3 years
4s is 150 for 16gig (for 2-3year) and price go up for higher specs and add 100$ fr 32 and another 100 for 64gig.

In canada the 32 gig is not available anymore for the Iphone 4.

As for jailbreak there is s subject about here in the Tech forums

Exept that here is a difference in points for each

Iphone 4

smaller size (8gig)

To make sure this is clear, you CAN NOT get siri on the regular iPHone 4, although there are some cracked version, developer beta, etc. If you want Siri, you must get the 4s. I think siri is insanely cool, so if I had to chose, I would get the 4s. However, depending on the price difference, it might not be worth it to you. I currently have the iPhone 4.

Rumors are Rumors: If the iPhone5 has anywhere face-time capability over 4g, that would make it an instant upgrade for me. Face-time is amazing and for me has a lot of applications with my work. Not sure if holding out for a feature like this is worth it to you.

4s will be jailbreakble in the next couple of days. It has quite an amazing processor. The speed difference between my iPhone 4 (A4 processor) and my iPad 2 (A5, same as 4s) is pretty substantial. That's not to say the iPhone 4 is worthless, it's not, it's an amazing phone. The camera is much better on the 4s if that piques your interest. Siri is cool for about a month, I didn't think it worked quite as well as advertised, although the diction is amazing (diction is available on a jailbroken 4). Personally, I'd buy a cheap 3gs off Craigslist or something and wait for the new phone in the fall. Should be a complete redesign with a quad core A6 processor.

Cheers for the replies guys. I live in the UK and am with Orange. I did look into Siri and felt it would be slightly wasted in me. Same as the 8 mega pixel camera. I do use the camera on my Bold quite often but only for random photos, nothing really important.

The fact the A5 chip seriously improves the phone probably interests me the most. However, i reckon i could hold out on a 3gs or 4 until the 5 comes out. New phone novelty tends to last a while with me and by the time i want rid of it ill hopefully be half way through the 24 months contract.

As someone who may or may not work for apple...

....the A5 chip is probably the only deciding factor for me, and maybe the storage space. When the 4s came out I got a 4....used, from a buddy, so I got a 32gb one. You might actually be better off buying a 4 from someone, and, if it's still under warranty, get it replaced at the genius bar for a new one so you don't have to wonder if it was messed up.

Save the upgrade for something else imo

I thought there were rumors of the 5 coming out this summer?

We have seen a lot of iPhone 5 rumors earlier, but this new one seems to be pretty trustworthy. It comes to us courtesy of the folks over at 9to5Mac who appear to have got the latest info on the next generation iPhone, tentatively called iPhone 5, via a Foxconn worker.

According to the new rumor, the iPhone 5 is ready for production at the moment and the company is planning a summer launch for it. The source has also revealed that there are many sample devices, each differing slightly from the others. So it’s impossible to tell which device will be final.

But all of these samples are equipped with 4-inch or larger screens, with one of them being made by LG. None of the samples have a MacBook Air-inspired teardrop shape (we don’t think that rumor is coming up again). They are symmetrically shaped and not a single one is having the same compact form factor as the iPhone 4 or 4S.

If the device is indeed coming with a larger screen, that will finally put the iPhone in the same display league as many of the competing Android handsets such as the Droid RAZR.

And we don’t think too many grains of salt are needed for this new rumor. Unlike many other rumors which bring out a device’s specs and tons of speculations, this new one is very vague. We have not got any exact display size, no blurry pictures of the handset and nothing about what’s under the hood. If it was made up, it won’t be too difficult for someone to pick a few possible specs.

And there is also the mentioning of the samples. As you might know, reviewing samples before selecting the final model is a standard procedure. And to add to all that, this is the same source who tipped on the iPhone 5 last year that the device was not coming and suggested we should expect the iPhone 4S. The rest is history.

The Tariffs for the 4s in the UK are retarded.

£42 a month for Orange on a 2 year contract for a 16GB

Get a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for £10-14 less a month, which works out to £288 savings or more for the duration of the contract.

I get a sense of satisfaction when I outsmart these phone companies and not being ripped off by them.

I've just saved almost £200 over a year by switching internet provides from Virgin to O2, because as an O2 customer, I get 6 months free rental phone AND internet, and £30 cashback!
