Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD collection

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=473988

From the same retailer site that listed the DMC HD collection early. Wonder if it's just the first game or all three.

Have 1-3 on the shelf but don't mind rebuying if 3 has online like the wii version.

I'd be all over if it was a Budokai collection instead of Budokai Tenkaichi. I just didn't like the feel of Tenkaichi 1/2, haven't tried 3 yet though.

I remember 1 being mediocre. 2 Was great though and if I remember it had the best music and a enjoyable story mode. 3 was alright but that's when the magic wore off.

Might buy but I think everyone would want a Budokai 3 HD release rather than a Tenkaichi collection.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai and Budokai 3 with achievement and trophy support. Not much a collection if you skip the second fucking game.

Namco Bandai Games Europe today announced the return of two of the finest Dragon Ball Z games in the history of the franchise. PlayStation 2 titles Dragon Ball Z Budokai and Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 are being enhanced and re-mastered in HD, and will be released together as Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in Europe this winter.

Originally released in 2002 and 2004 respectively, both games deliver highly charged, unforgettable gameplay experiences, making Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection an essential purchase for new Dragon Ball Z fans as well as those who want to relive the furious battles from the original games. With its intense gameplay and thrilling fight action, Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 went on to become the highest rated Dragon Ball Z title on Metacritic, a position it retains to this day.

With enhanced and re-mastered HD visuals, alongside full Trophy and Achievements support, Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection brings two legendary anime fighting titles to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the first time in one great package. No fan of the series can afford to miss it.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection will be powering its way into Europe this coming winter.

Seriously. Now I feel bad mentioning wanting a Budokai collection a few posts up.

Should just bundle it all into a 5-game collection if you're going to pull that shit. It'd at least make it stand out from the large amount of 2-3 'HD' remaster packs.

To be fair, Budokai 2 was pretty ass, save for the extra fusion characters like Tiencha. I suppose seeing Majin Freiza was pretty cool...

Budokai 2 was badass in a sense that it added literally every character a dbz fanboy would want. However it was combined with the same system as Budokai 1 which made it really, really, boring to play. Still, just seeing the topic title and people talking about the games here is enough to get me ranting:

Previously you had the following shit which did NOT allow full immersion of the DBZ universe, counting the "popular games"
Super Bout 1 (SNES) - Only went up to Cell Saga -- had Android 20, 16 and an Imperfect Cell, had "transformations" in a sense for Goku and Vegeta
Super Bout 2 (SNES) - Cell Saga and Movie 7 & 8 - stripped normal characters out, had a Cell Junior though, and the ultimate badass (I don't like him personally) Broli
Super Bout 3 (SNES) - Seriously this game was what the fuck. Adding in Fat Buu was fine but that barely covered anything. Kaioshin never actually "fought" anything, I wondered why the hell he was given a spot in the roster. At most this game covered the Tournament to the beginning of the Buu Saga. And Future Trunks as a secret char? What were they thinking? No story mode either, it's like this utterly gave up here and just churned a half-ass game out
Hyper Dimension (SNES) - This game was actually decent, but the roster was dumb. Arguably, the 3 most badass characters got included not featured in any other game for a while (Gotenks, Ultimate Gohan and Vegetto) did not have their story opponents (Super Buu and its fused incarnations). Piccolo was the sore eye here, he literally didn't slot in the roster

Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu - lol the Devil May Cry 2 of Dragonball. Don't fucking tell me IT HAD BROLI THOUGH, he was not good enough to save this utterly crap piece of cash cow of a game

Legends - Quite fast paced/quite a semi accurate DBZ simulator but with poor graphics, but overall it's always been highly rated as fun and I too enjoyed it in general despite the simple gameplay. It attempted to include as many characters as possible and succeeded up to a point, despite there being no difference between each character.
Shin Bout/Ultimate Battle 22 - First game to contain Super Buu. It had Gotenks too and a range of other characters, but not Kid Buu. Again, fucking Kaioshin gets a spot. Graphics were souped up as it was Playstation, and the opening movie plus the in-game pre-battle/after-battle talks very closely resembled the anime (which earned it big points despite the poor gameplay)
Final Bout - First 3D DBZ game concept. Not that much of a good game really but it was interesting while it lasted.

Supersonic Warriors - Was very very good in my opinion and can somewhat give a DBZ feel. Check out this match video I made in 2003 on an emulator which I linked on GameFAQs, which someone reposted to Youtube. I avoided using supers/beams (which 99% of all other videos do) to show how fun the gameplay could be. I turned off the music in-game and just kept sound effects and put my own battle track in there:

Got desperate towards the end and you can clearly see me fumbling in an attempt to win.

    ----
Budokai 1 - covering up to the cell saga, the game was good for testing waters. Only went up to Cell Saga, but it was good enough, if poor gameplay due to rapid energy losing if transformed

Budokai 2 - same as Budokai 1 but with Cel-shade graphics, decent enough to include nearly every RELEVANT character

Budokai 3 - the winner. included most other relevant/missing characters that actually gave the cast a decent fight. Combat system improved in that you retain some base energy when transformed, along with getting rid of all the stupid move lists of every character, removing the dumb "combo combo cutscene" that plagued B1 and B2

Dragon Rush killed the game though. They "improved" it in Shin Budokai 1 and 2 by taking out Dragon Rush, but took out the mass/chain transformation system as well (so you can only pick one transformation), killing the immersion in my opinion of the DBZ feel

Dragon Rush was exciting the first time you see it (via trailers/videos) and in-game first time. Afterwards it just becomes a yawnfest as you try to run away until Dragon Rush trigger mode ends
    ---

My opinion ends here I'm afraid. Tenkaichi never really interested me due to them including irrelevant (what i would label as NPCs) characters, and the gameplay videos don't seem that good. Even the latest games I fail to see the real excitement. I appreciate they tried to create a DBZ simulation but from the way I see it, it's just people doing the same over and over and over again.

Unless someone can link me to a video where it's as exciting as an SF3/SF4 match (mind games, careful playing, technique)

    --

I'll detail the above in a huge blog post soon, as I actually want to dive into details a bit more. The above was a quick 5 minute rant on my feelings towards the games.

@10:16: Game becomes so shit once Dragon Rush is activated. The guy playing Goku didn't do the proper procedures.

Looking at it now and how they're playing, albeit not very advanced I fail to see why people find it so fun. Once you go into the meta-game though yeh it's not too bad.

Also did anyone bother with the combos mentioned in the combo list? I've tried out a few (especially in Shin Budokai 2, basically the same game) and it brings out a few different poses for attacks not usually seen in the default/simple combos, but does anyone actually bother to do them besides PPPP or KKKKK?

Only 2 games? Even if Budokai II wasn't best received (though I personally loved it), they could have at least threw in Infinite world, which was essentially Budokai IV
