Xbox 360 modding

So my girls got the 360 with kinetic for Christmas. The Disney bundle that retailers sold for $200 on black Friday. How do I mod it to play backups. Not always been a PS3 person, so I'm not accustomed to the 360 scene. I don't know where to start. I googled it. But information seems very washed out and diluted. I just want to be able to backup their damn games. They love to just rip them out of their cases and grab me and bring them to me to insert Into the console. I don't want my games destroyed. I don't expect to be utilizing live that much, I doubt I'll play it. Still, I'd prefer not to have a banned console, so information regarding that would be much appreciated as well.

I'm not sure how much it applies to the newer xbox's, but the older ones were modded by installing special firmware on the dvd drive.

This was done easily by just opening up the xbox, and connecting the dvd drive to a sata port on your motherboard, and installing the firmware from your computer.

I'm not sure how much it's evolved since then, but 1-2 years ago I think it was jungle flasher that everyone was using.

edit: Doing a bit more googling to see what's new, apparently there's a new hack similar tot he JTAG hack. AFAIK, these hacks will allow you to run unsigned code, I believe run custom dashboards, modified games, etc, but you can't play online. (If you can, it's probably a more complicated process) On the other hand, what I described above, just flashing your dvd drive allows you to play backed up games, but they can't be modified in any way shape or form or they wont run (basically normal signed games,) is probably what you're looking for, so that's what I would focus on researching. I personally will be googling this RGH hack since the main reason I stopped messing with my xbox was because I updated past the point of no return for the JTAG hack by accident. :<

first, you're gonna need to see what kind of dvd drive is in the system so you'll know which firmware to install. also, are you going to need any kind of hardware to utilize as well, since some of these drives are finicky and won't simply work by plugging the drive into your motherboard.

Buy an Xk3y, it'll let you run games straight from an external HDD. I use the same HDD for XBox games, wii games and movies.
