    Mushibugyo

Summary: Joujuu Senjin!! Mushibugyo is set in an alternate history version of Edo-era Tokyo, where a special unit called the “Mushibugyo” protects the city’s denizens from the giant insects that run rampant throughout the city. Jinbee Tsukishima left his home to join the Mushibugyo, and now fights alongside his fellow comrades to exterminate the giant bugs while striving to be a warrior who never loses. He and the rest of the Mushibugyo risk their lives to protect not only the peace in Edo, but the smiles of the people as well!

I like this so far. The characters are funny and not annoying, the animation is good, the music is nice and it's entertaining.

I mostly agree with you, I like all the secondary characters, but I find the main character annoying as fuck. Hopefully he grows on me more, but right now I just want him to shut the fuck up.

I feel the opposite, I like his optimism and determination. He isn't whiny and he tries hard despite being in over his head. He relates to everyone, trusts them and helps them within reason. I can see how he might come across as annoying, but I'm not feeling it right now.

Not to say it won't happen, but so far I think he's solid. Everyone is kinda cliche with their personality and backstory, but the main character makes their chemistry feel unique and different.

It's more his voice than his personality. I like the fact that he's very optimistic and gung-ho about everything, but that voice just ruins it.

Ok, this show has really stepped up over the last few episodes. Jinbei is still naive beyond all reason, but he's slowly getting better. The overall plot is also starting to come together. If you can get past the first few episodes this is turning into a solid show.

I think I'll be giving it a shot after all, the first episode was decent, but fanservice has become a major disincentive for me. How is this show in that regard? Bearable?

It's not up to Gulkeeva levels of fanservice but there is a decent amount. I think the bigger problem is that when there is fan service it's not very subtle, so that may be a detriment for you.

Guess I'll just have to watch it to find out, at least I'll finally have something to watch while eating lunch. Thank you!

When has fan service ever needed to be subtle? At least the people who really like it don't care, either way I've always liked this show and nothing has changed. Keeps me watching every week.

It depends; there are show where fanservice fits in, but personally, I find it annoying when it's forced into shows for no reason, as it's neither entertaining, nor does it provide anything of worth to the story. Not to mention, most instances of fanservice are overused clichés: Girl falling down to provide a pantyshot, guys staring at a woman's breasts, accidental groping and the reactions - most of the time, they're terribly misplaced and hardly ever serve to benefit the character development.

It's as if storywriters disregarded the most basic concepts of human interaction and motor skills in order to force soft-porn elements into a non-pornographic show, which makes no sense, you wouldn't watch it as an aid for masturbation and it's not porn either - it's left somewhere in the middle, confused as to what it is.

You aren't the kind of people fanservice is for (it's called fanservice and not character development for a reason). If you like fanservice, you tend not to care what form it's in or how well it's integrated in the show. You see boobies or panties and that's that. Some might find it harmless or funny or just an unexpected shift in tone.

You're overthinking this. It's just tits.

Precisely, but that's still an if. If I watch a show, I expect that I get a story and episodes that effort has been put into, that's what I pay for; using jokes or similar things, even bad ones, to fill some holes is to be expected, but those require at least some effort. Fanservice, on the other hand, just screams "We're out of ideas, have some breasts" - it wastes time that could be used in a better fashion, one that doesn't necessarily have to kill the atmosphere.

I understand that it's also my sense of humor that is preventing me from "enjoying" fanservice, but the fact that it's included in almost every show is annoying, to say the least. Then again, it also makes me appreciate the shows that do not have to rely on it all the more.
