Train Derails in Lac Megantic Quebec, causes Massive Explosion

Happened yesterday, most people won't care but still sucks for people who lost familly and friends

In resume Satuday 1AM a train with crude oil arrives near Lac Megantic at around 100KM and derails which makes his cargo explode and completly wiped a good part of the 6000 habitants city.

The company who had the drain then admited that the train had no driver, because the last employe 'put the safety breaks' before finishing his shift at around 11PM EST friday at 12KM of the city, but something still unknown happen and the train started moving by his own.

As of 4PM EST Sunday fire is still burning from the cargo (rumor that it had like 70 wagons or something all filed with Oil) we count 5 death and 40 missing people but there is still a barrier due to the fire so people can't go in, so expecting the number to sky rocket after

Really tragic for this small town

Damn if it weren't for the context you'd think some natural disaster or terrorist attack happened. I wish for the best for the town and the families affected.

New info. Train company sent a note saying that they aren't taking any fault in that

They said that the train operator put the breaks at 23h00 pm Friday and went to sleep but since its 'air breaks' if the locomotive looses power air gets sent away and after 2h average the air is all gone which could've made the locomotive run alone

Which is a possibility since it was parked at 23pm and the explosion happened at 1am.

Now there is a rumor that a wagon was already on fire at around midnight and some fireman were cleaning it up

Possible that they weren't informed and they powered the locomotive off to prevent damage? ( which would lead to the explosion) no one knows yet

Firemen just admitted they closed the power of the locomotive because the firdt fire was dangerous

But they said that the railroad company was still there when they left

I'm sensing this gonna be another ' it's not my fault it's their'

Gonna have to find the final reason soon ...

And that thread better not derail into a political argument. Unlike our medias that are fucking covering Amir Kadir who is blaming everything on the oil companies and evil capitalism yet again.

Firemen always cut power to whatever the fuck they're working on. It's one of the first steps you perform. I doubt there is any negligence on their part.

Not pointing fingers, but it sounds and looks like the firemen didn't ask the train personal what would happen if they cut the power. And on the flip side, the train personal didn't inform the firemen what would happen if the power was cut.

It's just a series of unfortunate events that led to a catastrophe.

By negligence thinks he meant that They could've check if they needed to power on the locomotive after the fire was off but yeah
