BG's network got attacked twice in the last week by (D)DoS attacks. Of course as the number of attacks increase so does the sensitivity of the blocker.

These attacks don't seem to cause major instability problems so far but do increase our bandwidth bill by hundreds of dollars each months.

The captcha whitelisted your IP for the next 8 hours but I increased the expiration to 1 week instead hoping to make things less irritating for everyone.

Is it okay if I inquire how our bandwidth and the bills are? Has there been an overall increase or decrease over time?

All of BG together is about 60TB of bandwidth per month. It has been somewhat stable for the last few years except for the occasional XI/XIV patches. Thanks to the BG Forums donations and volume discount we almost always break even otherwise I pay the few extra thousands dollars from my own pockets.

By the way I have adblock disabled for the wiki, and still don't see ads unless I am on mobile. If I do that for any other site it shows the ads so do you know what the deal with that is?

Is ad revenue of much use either?

EDIT: Forgot you don't see ads if logged in. Funk reminded me of this.
Is there a way we could opt in to help out?

Ads only show to lurkers not logged in since they eat most of the bandwidth and contribute nothing to the wiki.

Also we run the yearly rafflecopter for monies every january-ish.
