Does he even fucking read this shit anymore?
I don't think you teach like English 101, but I was wondering if you can lead me to some good sources of college-level passages that can be found in gen ed courses (can be English, History, etc.).
I may be doing some thing amazing, or shit terrible for my students next semester, but I need these.

I should mention I prefer a collection of different passages vs. one unified novel. Though passages can be from a novel.
Basically, I want to start giving my students example readings of what they would read in college, then teach them how to break them down to comprehend them. Readings would need to be about no more than a page to make sure we'd have enough time to read it over several times.

are you looking for a textbook to use or individual articles/ideas for articles?
generally every semester i teach 101 (basic comp), 102 (advanced comp), and a higher level English class
I've taught 096 before (remedial) but please god no more

Just for my info, what text do you use for your composition class? Our 12th grade teacher just finished going through all the college application essays, and she said the writing was just awful, and students have such limited vocab. I do a major push with words, but I think if students kept seeing examples of college-level writing they can begin to imitate it a bit.

Also another thought, it took fucking forever to find a grammar textbook, and it's pretty outdated, but it's for English 101. It's super great because most grammar books are either not enough practice or meant for like 3rd graders.

Ultimate goal is to get enough material that I can have a "Free Friday" where students can pick which standard to work on, but in order to do so I need a fuckton of material for them to choose from. This is something that is probably going to take me 3+ years to fully implement.

lemme get back to you tomorrow. meantime here is the textbook we're currently using for 101. no grammar, it's just a collection of essays (wide variety, from contemporary articles about how the internet affects the way we learn, to more classic sources like the allegory of the cave and a modest proposal). main focus for 101 is just properly structuring an essay, developing an argument, and citing sources.
