I'm guessing you're not from the US if you're going to Nigeria "for a weekend," but the US State Dept issues travel warnings for a variety of nations. Nigeria is one of them.

I would love to go, but there has been ALOT of fighting going on in all parts of Africa, from machete assaults on Foreigners as well as their own citizens. I am not talking in the remote jungle regions either. There has also been alot of killing openly homosexual people (men and women), Albinos and children of Albinos for medicinal purposes, but you are not albino so this does not affect you at all.

I know the ministry of affairs warned tourist to Africa as recently as 5 weeks ago about an up surge in Violence. Lagos (a city in Nigeria specifically or somewhere recently had a family of immigrants killed while on Vacation, simply because they were "Not from there." I personally, would jump at the chance to go.
