Shadow of the Colossus had a depressing ending, I picked it up for $15 at EB a few weeks ago and finally got around to beating it last night.

It was depressing, but I liked the little glimmer of hope at the end. Something about it was satisfying and the ending was long, so I liked it.

The best game endings seem to be the sad ones, in my opinion.

I think it is because it is the closest to reality. In reality, everyone doesn't get anything close to a happy ending, majority of the time getting some kind of negative out of even the positive actions that they have done. I think that would make an ending more appealing.

FFX-2 definitely had a solid battle system, which is why I played that game through even though the story sucked (the side stuff however was fun).

Needed less "fan service" though.
