Do you need to do Salvage to be a credible endgame player?

It's pretty much the most cutting edge thing out right now (Einherjar is universally accepted as too fudged to really matter at this point) and has some of the best gear in the game available from it. Except for Homam gear, Ridill, Ebody, and Dring (and haidate to a slightly lesser extent), it's THE spot for the primo gear for most jobs. In addition, there seems to be a consensus about it requiring more 'skill' than the majority of activities in FFXI. It's also more egalitarian in some ways, as everything about it can be scheduled and the zones are instanced. So what say you, BG?

I voted no. Salvage just seems to be in the highest tier of endgame right now, but that doesn't mean the people that do it are automatically "credible". To me, being a credible endgame player means that you have a vast knowledge of FFXI and how things work at any/every level, regardless of what activities you do or don't take part in.

ARES - Almost all the pieces are sidegrades/slight upgrades except Body, which is of course only good for PLDs, DRGs, and non-botting WARs and DRKs.

I mean yeah, if this gear came from an assault type system that didn't require any effort, I think it'd be silly not to collect all these new sidegrades. However, most of the playerbase, myself firmly included, seem to consider this gear not worth the effort. Kudos to those with the patience to jump through the hoops required to get these "upgrades."

I stopped reading after you called morrigan's robe an epeen weskit. I heard refresh is kinda nice sometimes and that there's another body piece with refresh that most mages spend the better part of endgame trying to get.
