    Nero adding file size?

I noticed something weird last night when I was burning something: Nero randomly adds a certain amount of file size to a video file. Why? I have no idea. For instance, I had a file that was 7.87GB (as reported by Windows Explorer), but Nero stated it as 8.25GB, adding almost 300MB to the file. Now, this wasn't a huge issue at the time seeing as I could still fit it on a DVD9. However, I have another file that, with Nero's file bloating, breaks the limit for the disc.

Why does this happen? How long has Nero done this? Is there something I have turned on in the settings that's adding this? I took a quick scan through the options, but I couldn't find anything that related (or at least not to me). I found one thread on some random forum through google, but it was created in 2005 and only had two replies to it (neither with an answer).

If worse comes to worse and this is something I can't avoid, is there another burning program out there you recommend? I've been using Nero since the beginning of time, but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Burning a video CD or a DVD? If so, its probably converting the video to MPEG-2 so your video CD/DVD player can paly it. MPEG-2 compression sucks, which is why the bitrate is higher, hence the bigger file size.

Basically no. MPEG-2 needs higher bitrates than XViD (assuming you're using that) to get the same picture quality.

I eventually just compromised and split the file into two and them on 2 DVD5s. Meh. Thanks anyways.
