Need help finding a Pomeranian.

So I've been looking through newsday, and random websites, and I've been reluctant to find the pomeranian I've been looking for. It's for my girlfriend for Christmas, so time is precious. I'm trying to keep it around $600-$900, and the few pet stores I've been to were asking for upwards of $1500. I live on Long Island, so I'm looking for something that is relatively close. Also looking for a "teacup" one, which I think just means they don't grow very big. I've looked all around, but haven't found anything. So I came here hoping someone knew of a place or could at least point me in the right direction.

The first picture is the exact color of what she's looking for. Mainly black with light brown around his face.

Although this tan one, the one we saw at the pet store(wanted $2100) would be okay as well.

Your first mistake. I'd recommend doing a google search on breeders for this specific breed. You'll probably have to go on a road trip to get it. But the good thing is most breeders guarantee their dogs, meaning if it gets sick within a year or two they'll replace it for free. Some places also house train the dogs up front and get them the necessary innoculations.

Wow 2100 bucks for a pomeranian. My family had one pomeranian and my brother had one also, both were found wandering around the streets w/o a tag.

My family had a pomeranian for a while. We got ours from a local animal shelter, so you could try one of those if you run out of options (though I'd imagine pomeranians get picked up out of shelters quite fast). Otherwise, try to contact a breeder.

Yeah I have tried the animal shelter near us on several occasions, they either just never have them or sell out extremely fast. These dogs are harder to find than a Wii.

Get it from a breeder, shelter or pound. Don't buy dogs from pet stores.

PS. Yes, Teacup means they will be smaller than other dogs of their breed. Aka "carry around on my arm" type dogs.

What's bad about getting pets at pet stores? I'm just wondering since I don't have one/plan on getting one.

They'll overcharge you and often sell you inbred, sickly mongrels that they claim are healthy pedigrees.

Yeah, don't deal with pet stores. Too much money for something that isn't even a guaranteed purebred. If you do some looking around for some breeders in your area on the internet they're usually the best way. That's how we got one of our Corgis. She's a purebred Pembroke born from healthy parents. We found the breeders just by googling "Corgi breeders in Southern California".

but yeah, use petfinder. one of the best places I have seen if you are looking for pure breed dogs

but going to the pound never hurts either (my beagel named -dongel- is a kickass dog) got him from the pound

I got my pomeranian 10 years ago in a random pet store and he was only $400. He looked exactly like that first picutre you have posted, too. It's too bad I couldn't bring him with me when I went to college, I miss him! At least it gives me something to look forward to when I go back home to visit...

I'm really not too sure where you should look, though. I never realized they were such a difficult breed to find.

I had a friend who worked at the pet store, and like others have said, they don't take the animals out for excercise. They just sit in that cage all day and barely move around, so generally have a problem with walking and their bones, iirc. I looked at that petfinder link, and found 3 in my area, so I'm going to check them out in a little while.

At the person who asked why someone brought their pomeranian bowling, I looked over the posts before that, where did you get that idea at all? lol
