    Broken Scholar and First Floor

Not even Hammerblow could break Stoneskin/Phalanx. HP stayed white the entire first floor. I took first back for Hi-Ether Tank. Between that and Sublimation, no curing was really needed. AoE Regen2 is also busted.

Also Bindga or Graviga + Sandstorm and Desert Boots is a functional way of pulling the fomor. Have the party fight in the far corner to avoid any potential blood aggro. Scholar can sneak up and return to the party after aggro breaks off. This can be repeated and all the mobs can be taken down in about 5-7 minutes. Kill the last mob in the hall to avoid Hammerblow until you can rebuff. Do the Mithra first and the rangers last because the rangers won't chase into the corner and you can't fight them correctly, and the Mithra are just plain annoying to kill so best to do when buffs are at their max. Red Mages -> Monks -> Corsair -> Rangers

    This works wonders.

I'll test this in other areas soon enough but I'm sure there will be similar first-floor results.

Re: Broken Scholar and First Floor

What we do now for the Hammerblow room is we just send the SAM in and he holds all 6 of them while the other melee(s) pull one by one off. He equips the Iron Ram Lance, gets Protect4 or 5 if the WHM has magic, and capped Phalanx2. If a body cell has dropped he uses Arhat's Gi but he survives without it still. Keep regen on and the lot of them do very little damage. Like you said get the RDM's first. A single mage can cure the melees by themselves and then just back out of the room some before hammerblow spawns. If scholar kiting and losing agro and all that junk is broken, then damage taken- and buffs only more so.

Re: Broken Scholar and First Floor

We did super kiting and super tanking but both were prone to mistakes which in one of our runs was pretty devastating. Using combinations of Bindga and Graviga to take them out one at a time was pretty impressive. Another thing I thought about doing is not even bringing the party to the main room but having Scholar just fetch with Graviga and take off. The mobs break apart outside of their linking range and are pretty scattered. Then whoever happens to be the kaboose will be the first one to get pulled. This could be a great way to get only a couple at a time as well. I could possibly start this process while the rest of the party farms one of the wings and have this room down to only a monk and 2 rangers by the time the time they finished clearing a wing. The rangers can be ignored while they kill the monk followed by the rangers one at a time.

One of the reasons I prefer these as alternative options is because while Super kiting seemed to be our fastest killing method, we had the THF die once in the process and that kinda went awry >.< If a couple extra minutes means no deaths and something more foolproof, I'm all for it. Tonight I'm going to see about getting a couple of these fomor to my group right after the first mob. They should be on the 4th fomor and raiding chests by the time I get them there. I'll toss fraps on and post how this works out.

Re: Broken Scholar and First Floor

what i wanted to try our next run on SSR was to have everyone camp at one of the "chest rooms" (right off the 4 way junction room) and just have one of our guys jump in, aggro, and kite north. those things lose aggro so pathetically easy, you'd have maybe 3-4 melees to supertank while the mages and the rng probably break off pursuit well and good before reaching that room. mop up the melees with ease, then waltz back to the mages and shove a poker up their asses. no mess, no fuss, no problem. has anyone tried that technique yet to any success or failure? what went wrong if it didn't work?

Re: Broken Scholar and First Floor

As scholar I've been able to the mobs in that room and lose aggro and just bring one. I use bindga to pull and it wears off the mithra the fastest and depending on which spells they try to cast when they chase, one is always in front of the other.

Don't even need a SCH for this pull method.. anyone with +movespeed can lose aggro when they run to the start. Main party in a corner of the room wont blood aggro anything. Pull 1 on initial aggro, then grab the stragglers as they return; they are almost always separated so that you will get 1 maybe 2 at a time.

Stoneskin+Phalanx for the party is pretty nice though.

Yep I've done it like this. Ryko's way seems interesting. Earth Staff + Phalanx not to mention there's jelly ring if you manage to get a virga cell. That's on top of the fact you can put stoneskin on as well with a scholar in the group. Seems like a pretty effective way to kite. I don't think our THF has one but she can always borrow mine.

The way we've always done it ~ Charge in with Phalanx II, take out the RDM first, and then clear everything else. It takes about 100 seconds to kill all 6 of them this way. We never bothered with earth staff/arhats/jelly ring/etc., there was never a need to. I don't see why other groups kite, seems like a waste of time.
