Nub question about Outlook :(

I'm working with microsoft outlook at work for all my e-mailing needs, and was wondering if there was a simple way to set it up where every time I recieve an e-mail to have it forwarded to a gmail account that I can check from anywhere. I recieve usually 50-100 a day, so anything to cut down on lag time while I'm working on the computer with outlook would be sweet.

Any ideas?

I know that in Outlook Express you could pretty easily create a rule to forward all mail to another address, look for Message Rules in the options somewhere.

As far as I know there's no way to do this, the only rules you can set up will move it to a different folder (not e-mail client). I may be wrong but I looked through the settings on my outlook briefly and couldn't find anything.

tools > Message Rules > Mail

create a rule

Where the to line contains people in the first box
in the second box Forward it to people

then in the third box click on the people and input your email address instead

this should create the rule that all messages recieved directly to you will be forwarded... this wont work with mailing lists however, unless you setup a rule specifically for that list

now outlook (this is 2002/2003 i dont know about 2007)
tools > Rules Wizard > New
Start from a Blank Rule
Check messages when they arrive
Next
check Where my name is in the To or CC box, also sent to a people or distribution list
in the third box click people or distribution list, add the list you recieve stuff from
Next
Forward it to people or a distribution list
in the third box click people or distribution list, add your email (gmail address)
next
if you see anything you would like to be as an exception, add it
name the rule, and check to turn it on, click finish

now the only thing is i dont know if it will leave a copy of the forwarded message in your inbox, it should as it doesnt say delete... but thats how you should be able to do it

If you have access to any of your mail settings for your POP account at work, maybe you can set a forwarding address, this way the servers are left the responsibility. I'm not familiar with gmail, and thus I'm assuming that you are allowed the standard 'web-mail' access and aren't allowed POP access. If so you may not like reading all your mail in IE/FF. Some people prefer a email client to web-stored email. Just depends on your personal preference.

Edit: Reread OP and thought of something else to add. If lag is your concern then setting OE/Outlook to forward isn't going to help anything, as they still have to receive the mail to forward it, in a sense creating more lag. If you don't have access to POP settings then maybe you can ask your Admin to make the changes for you.

however since you are using outlook, and you are at work, im going to bet its an exchange server type deal...

if its not, and you do have an actual pop server and access to it, then you can setup gmail to access your pop account and download the messages it self
