I'm currently using frontpage to develop a webpage for a site my roommates and I bought for fun. I hate frontpage thus far and I'm looking for something better/different. I will not buy anything....but I won't not torrent.

hello world in HTML form is easy, but good-looking graphics and scaling pages and whatnot isn't quite so easy.

If you want something that allows you to preview... I like PHP Designer 2007 as it allows you to make all sorts of different web format files.

However, 95% of my web coding is done in Notepad/vi.

I'm all for notepad, but no reason not to use existing software to make it faster, as long as you are not doing business as web designer that is >.>

Fuck notepad, Notepad++ just because it has syntax highlighting.

That's only if you're doing HTML. I use Dreamweaver for any PHP work.

Why would people use notepad when there are free, better alternatives at the touch of a 'google search' button?

I use EditPlus/emacs these days, depending on the environment available to me.

Because notepad is the traditional joke reply to that question? Of course, those enhanced version of notepad are better, but the point is that you have to learn how to do write html code before trying to make webpage. Trying to find a program that make all the html coding wont do you any good.

Wrong, what you need before learning HTML is to have an idea of how do you want the site to look, knowing HTML wont help you with that, plus why would you learn HTML when you are not going to live off that, and the tools solve most of the problems.


P.S. I use notepad, I know a bit of HTML, yet I suck at web design simply because design is not my forte.

If your ability to design/implement ideas on a web pages is based off a WYSIWYG editor, stop trying. Every designer of anything code-based should learn the backend. There are far too many people in the coding world that don't know the roots, we don't need more...

Oh please!, Sure if he is doing it for business he should learn the ropes/roots/etc, what wrong about doing it the WYSIWYG way for a site that is hobby?
