    hyper cat? WATER BOTTLE ENGAGED!!

Ok so I use to have 3 cats, but after my fiance and I broke up I took one to my new place and she took the other two with her. When the cats were together the cat I took was really laid back sat on top of the fridge all day and just sleep, occasionally he would get up and play with them but mostly relaxed. Every since I moved with him though he has became extremely hyper and all over the place. Is there any thing I can do to get him to chill the fuck out? Im glad that hes happy and all but my god he never stops! He chases his tail flopping all over the place, when he gets bored with that he attacks the curtains, when hes done with that he will chase these little balls around i bought him, and when hes done with that he will go find anything he can to attack before repeating the process. Normally I wouldn't care but I live on the top floor of my apartment and hes got to be driving the down stairs neighbors crazy, as well as annoying my room mate and occasionally me.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

did you think...to get another cat? If it was used to having playmates and you took that away from him, sounds like a complete no brainer.

How long I wonder for water bottle to wind up in the title?

Anyway, I'd agree. Sounds like restlessness and / or social deprivation. If playing isn't solving it, you're going to have to re-educate. Good luck with that, cats aren't really fond of re-education.

If the cat is happier without the other two, maybe it was because of a territory issue and he was being submissive/depressed before? Can cats get depressed? lol

Well he was the first cat we had, the second we had was a female from the same litter but got her about a month after him, the third was a male but about 2 years younger than him, so I don't think that he was being submissive. I can't get him a play mate because we aren't allowed to have pets as it is, just had to bring him with me because I couldn't find him a good home and no way I can have him put to sleep or in the pound. Cant let him be a outside cat because hes afraid of the grass and hes ~5-6 years old and never been outside (other than the pouch when he was ~1-2 and wouldn't get off of it because of the grass)

have you tried catnip to see if that mellows him out? My guess is it's a combination stress of the move and lack of playmates.

He probably knew the 3rd one had issues and left it behind.

How's his diet? Did it change at all after you moved out? I know my cat would turn into Speedy Gonzales if I gave him some finer wet foods.

I bought him a different type of dry food, we use to switch food every time we ran out just buying what ever was the cheapest at the time usually, so shouldn't be that. Actually he was the best of the three cats, the female was destructive as hell clawing the hell out of the walls and stuff, and the other male did nothing but sit in the blinds tearing them up. She didnt take this cat because he was basically my cat and blatantly more attached to me (he would sit in my lap and come to me for petting but wanted nothing to do with her). That and she didn't want the reputation of being a "crazy cat woman"

I'd switch him to raw meat but he's probably too old for that now.

It could just be from the move. We just adopted a kitten and sometimes he gets crazy like that, but calms down eventually and chills out for a bit.

My brother and his gf have three cats.
Their first cat is very no nonsense, mostly likes to be left alone and will come to you when SHE wants attention. The second cat is a little... damaged. Something apparently went wrong with the anesthetic when they got her fixed. So she has balance and vision issues, and is very very skittish. She's sweet but super nervous. The first cat is a bitch to the second, which makes her even MORE skittish. They were having problems with her peeing around the house. However, they semi-recently got a THIRD cat. He's super friendly, big and laid back, and is immune/oblivious to intimidation, so has risen to the top of the cat hierarchy basically by default. His mere presence seems to have stabilized cat-relations. All of the cats are happier and calmer now.

    I found this, I dunno:
    http://www.knowyourcat.info/info/hierarchy.htm

Basically your cat is in a wide and glorious new land, and the previous social structure has completely vanished. Whatever cat-rules there were before no longer exist, and neither do territories. I dunno a lot about cats, but it makes sense to me. Hopefully he'll just calm down in time?

Getting a calm cat does seem to help a lot. I adopted a pair of kittens (calico girls from the same litter, they're in the pet picture thread) a little while ago and while one of them can be pretty high-energy and crazy skittish, her calm sister just seems to bring everybody down on the level. If Celene isn't freaking out (and she almost never freaks out, unless I pick up cleaning implements and then she goes under the bed and doesn't come out until maybe an hour after I'm done), the other two calm down much faster.
