AT&T Phones

Moving to AT&T soon to save money (plus i despise my blackberry) and looking for a phone, currently looking at either the Quickfire or the Matrix... there are other possibilities but none that are standing out to me really... not going to get the iphone or a blackberry (data plans are too expensive!) budget is like $150 for the phone, but i do get premiere discounts being an AT&T employee... suggestions? experiences?

ps: dont give me crap about ragging on AT&T, i need something cheaper and verizon is killing me
pps: want a good txting phone, thus im looking at the ones with full qwerty keyboards

I just got a Black Jack II and I love it. Only thing it doesn't have that I'd want is wi-fi. Verizon is expensive as hell and I wouldn't want to give them any more money after their less than stellar DSL customer service.

Also, I have to ask... If you work for AT&T, why are you asking which phone to get? Just wanna see who likes what?

I've heard good things about this thing. Who is your provider? Like it was mentioned before, Verizon is kinda expensive, so the other option is ATT I guess.

What about the iphones shady G3 performance? I've read it here and other forums; furthermore, one of my friends has problems w/ it. Don't get me wrong, the phone is great, but the G3 is kinda shit for it.

Anyways, any other input is cool, I'm looking to get a phone.

Palm Centro is good. got one last april and have been pretty happy with it. stores your text conversations like IM's, which is nice to keep track of but makes it too easy to send out a lot of them all the time. can set it up for multiple e-mail accounts/providers, which is good if you use separate ones for personal/work/school. the web browser is pretty easy to navigate, but sometimes the page buttons are unresponsive and you need to reload the page for them to work, and pages don't always fit to size or just wont work (facebook!).

only gripes would be sometimes the battery life seems to bottom out from what feels like minimal use, and it's a bit of a chore to add/edit/delete contacts because of how the phone stores them. but all in all i like this phone a lot

Get the iPhone and jailbreak it. Checkout the other smart phone thread for more info. No other phone is as robust as a jailbroken iPhone.

This is coming from someone who abhors the apple marketing machine and can't stand their PCs.

ATT @ 10$ company plan. Normally I think it's like 40$ a month, 10$ for text, and 30$ for data.

I know you hate Blackberry's but I have a Bold and probably won't go to any other phone for a while.

The picture is better than iPhone and it is very easy to text on it, I am a big guy and usually texting is hard for me.

My older sister has a Palm Centro without Windows OS on it and loves hers but I never really got into Centro.

Centro dont come with Windows OS, only Palm's. Centros are nice, ive used Treo's in the past, and there a nice smaller option. I would have gone with a Treo Pro, but it's really expensive and ATT didnt carry it :/

I have a blackjack 2 and have had no problems. The full keyboard is a must have, so much better than touch screens.

Im trying to avoid phones that require data plans... why im skipping the iphone (though i could get a 3g 8GB refurbed one for $150 which i considered) but im trying to cut costs i get a 19% discount on plans so even the 450 with roll over and unlimited txt is still like 52 a month for me, include a data plan and im basically back at where i was with vzw (i get a 10% off plan with them) I'd get an iphone but the horrible things ive heard about the keyboard frighten me

Please, do tell. If anything, it's probably one of best phone keyboards i've ever used. No, you can't mash you finger into the touch screen and expect it to understand what letter you're trying to type.
